Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I'd like to believe that it's over

I'd like to, but I can't. They kept laying off until the last minute of working hours, which makes me believe there's more left for the next two days. I don't think anybody got any actual work done today and I honestly don't know how any of us will be able to handle two more days of this. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and it is done after all. It's unlikely, though.

@krc+1imF73I5 I disagree with the timing and numbers. I believe there won't be more lay offs until next year, but not that 8K employees are going to be the total let go in the next few years. The current goal of BF/JF is going EV, and outsourcing, each of them means less NA workers. So I'd say that the lay offs are going to continue in the next years, with about 8K each year.

In 2019 (SRD), Ford let go 7K blue badges. During 2020/2021 things were hectic, and only 1k were let go in 2021. This year things are getting back to normal, and if we count PS, Agency and these cuts now, Ford let go around 7K again.

Remember that Ford committed to 2 million EVs by 2026. I am expecting the company to "pick up the pace" laying off workers, since we "lost" a couple of years. That would mean 3 possibilities for next year:

  • 500 employees monthly (6k) plus agency.
  • One big layoff (9-10k).
  • 2 lay offs in the year, each around 4-5k.

We'll know which approach will be by Feb/Mar 2023. Good luck everyone!

I think the 8000 is accurate but that it will be over at least a few years. So it could go 3k, this, 3k next, and maybe 2k in year 3- or something like that. The chances of any one person, especially somebody with seniority, surviving all three years is probably at best a 50/50 proposition - and that's at best.

It ain't over until the fat lady sings. Elena is still warming up her voice.

Remember they said 8,000 originally. How much you think they can do in a day - 1,000 or so? It’s just the start folks…

I turned in my notice about 10 days ago, my last day with ford is this Thursday. It is ironic that some people that wanted to stay got the pink slip, while others who want to leave had to quit voluntarily.
