Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Typical EM incompetence - EMPS webinar

What a joke.

No wonder this place is in free fall cannot even do an internal webinar without screwing up.

Great to see all the diversity/ incompetence.

@1rex+1imJUFvV I think we've already passed the 50K mark and are going to 40+K employees. This is the reason why nothing is getting done at Exxon. Absolutely nothing.

Leaders call a "spade" a "spade".

When leaders create an artificial headcount reduction (i.e. a layoff) and call it a "Performance Related Event", then we know that they are not leading even though our leaders claim we are hiring the best and brightest.

Makes you wonder about our leadership recruiting practices when they reduce headcount by 33% in three years.

Year Regular Employees At End of Year
2019 74,900
2020 72,000
2021 63,000
2022 ???
2023 50,000 (estimate)

cmon peeps, if you are still there shut it! It is not that hard to find a diff job.... base pay + 10% (pension) + 7% (match) + 10% inconvenience fee. If you cant get that keep trying until you do that or better. Don't forget the friends you have who are now in leadership positions elsewhere...

The company doesn’t actually want “care”, they just want the appearance of “care” and generating statistics that can back up those claims.

Had missed hearing how the corporation cares about our wellbeing, our mental health and how they will not give us a bonus as we might suffer angst when things are bad and there is no bonus. They used to say that every year at new employee orientation. Only executives know how to handle evil bonuses, regular employees are not ready for it. :-)

I agree with some of the comments. The message was very clear.

  1. Performance assessment is here to stay and will continue to force 13% receiving a “do not meet expectations” with 5-10% of those asked to fight for their jobs over 3 months regardless of the actual contributions.
  2. How we compensate will not change and clearly 20-30% are probably receiving way above competition, 50% probably barely competitive to not competitive at all and the rest somewhere in the middle.

If you cannot live with this reality and do not feel that it is a gift to receive Needs Improvement / Needs Significant Improvement, it is simply time to look at other options. I know it is hard when sacrifices have been made thinking one had a career … but now working at ExxonMobil is just a job. When the win-win ends, it is time to go find another job.

It is not that the grass is necessarily greener in other corporate America companies, but for a lot of them, the grass is at least more honest … many offer a job, not a career.

You all sound like you did not listen in the forum. The leaders are there early and late just to keep things moving. They shouldn’t have to beg you or anyone to stay. Either you want a job or you don’t. If you can’t get on board get off. There are plenty of others that would appreciate a job in this world and it seems like you all want more so maybe that’s what you need is to see the grass isn’t greener on the other side. If your that low of a person to put peoples names out there on a board not understanding the business then that shows your iq. I’m still glad EMPS still has the best leaders and will keep us winning.

I was too busy doing real work to watch this. Sounds like I didn’t miss any revelations, besides the Four Horseman.

Reducing employees to nearly zero is always a loosing strategy. You should be working to grow.

Having them tell me I am paid “competitively” and I “enjoy” the ranking and “collaboration” from working on site is GASLIGHTING. No, I don’t like it… hence the question.

This looks and feels like a junior school effort.

Handing back and forth to half wits mumbling their way through.

Awful slides, awful presenters, no clear message, no conviction.

We are in deep sh-t.
