Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Why would you want to go back work for Ford?

For the people lamenting that they can't go back to Ford after being let go:

Why would you want to?

And, for that matter, why would you EVER consider purchasing a Ford product in the future?

I was let go as a contract employee in Dec of '20 with a 10:00 pm phone call on a Friday night, right before Christmas.

Totally classless.

Due to this, along with Ford's abysmal quality, I NEVER recommend Ford products to people who ask me for advice on their next vehicle purchase.

In fact, I emphatically recommend that they steer clear of Ford products, no matter how the deal might be sweetened with 0% financing or whatever.

And a lot of people ask me, knowing that I have worked as an engineer for several car companies.

Think of the number of potential customers just one employee influences.

Then multiply that by the number of employees being jettisoned.

That's a lot of customers who won't be shopping for a Ford in the future.

Better to jettison the dead weight CEO and use his salary and bonus to keep the employees, and shore up quality.

Why does anyone wants to work for a company that provides poor quality products to their customers?

I will work and dedicate my time only to a company that I am proud of to be an employee there.

Many people are embarrassed to said that they work for Ford. They don’t discuss it e we other other people.

If you spent years working at Ford, they helped you provide for your family and we're a big part of your life. You shouldn't let one moment in time sour you on them. Yes, they could handle things better. Unfortunately it's about the same as anywhere and at least there is some severance and those who had pensions have not lost those.

OP is a jerk for never recommending Ford or other domestic company vehicles. Many are very good.

@OP. I never recommended Ford to anybody. Actually, I never recommended any of the Detroit 3. I only recommend Japanese made vehicles.

It is not related of having or not having a job with Ford, or taking revenge on the company due to the way they handle the lay off. I have known for years what kind of workplace this is, and I know it is just a job: easy comes, easy goes. Friends and family stay for ever, so I'd never do them the disservice of recommending Ford.

UAW quality is laughable. American management sucks, and they bend to the all mighty dollar. The NA managers are willing to exchange somebody's life for a promotion, and Ford's managers proved it with the Pinto. The Ford family, by incompetence or for money, they don't care neither.

I don't drive a Ford, the couple times I did were rentals, and I am still working in the company. So I am pretty much sure I won't change my position when I get laid off.

At the same time, I am sorry that you lost your job, and sucks to find out that way.

You ask a good question about going back - would I or wouldn't I? I was honestly bummed when I read the part of the SIRP that said that I could never be employed by Ford again. I genuinely loved Ford. I saught it out as an employer and worked hard to get in. Now that I've been let go, I figured, somewhere in the back of my mind, that if there was ever a position posted that I was qualified for - that I would consider it. And that I'd know better and try to land someplace more future proof. I admit that's probably naive and I may change my mind after I've taken some time to process all this.

But on the other hand... I've been here a little over 10 years and I don't think I've gone two years without that pending doom hanging over our heads. I wouldn't want to knowingly go back to that feeling again.

As far as buying Ford / Lincoln products again.... Man, I laughed out loud when I read that. I would not! I drive one now. And I'm genuinely glad I didn't buy a new one last year (I had been considering it). It would just feel like a kick in the pants everytime I got in it. And I would have a hard time feeling good about a Ford / Lincoln going forward knowing that they canned me... So that's a big 'nope' from me!
