Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Any sense in hiring a lawyer?

Any sense at all in trying to have a lawyer review the package? I mean, Michigan is an at-will state. All a lawyer will do is look at it, say it seems fair and then charge you a few hundo.

I'm tempted just to cover my bases, but surely someone has done this before.

You had the wrong lawyers, @iau+1impXNni. Ford got caught by it's own emails and was forced to settle out of court for their illegal cuts. What Ford did was illegal and they knew it! https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2022/01/10/ford-settles-age-discrimination-lawsuit/9149524002/

I am going to attorney. My separation agreement had paragraph stating, “You will not be eligible for re-hire”?? That translates to “ineligible for rehire” which implies you were terminated for cause!

No. Ford has teams of lawyers reviewing every detail of the severance agreements. Ford won’t negotiate anyways. Don’t waste your money and just sign. Use the energy to find another job.

If it is anything like the other automotive makers around here, you have to sign a document saying you won't sue in order to get any severance. That was my experience in 2009 anyway.

The will be a shareholder lawsuit over Farley's false claims that Ford will achieve 600k EVs in 2023 & 2 Million EVs in 2026. Cannot happen. Memorandums of Understanding with raw material suppliers & battery manufacturers are NOT contracts. Misleading shareholders with false material statements is fraud.

Considering the long history of age discrimination by Ford during large cuts I wouldn't be so quick to be dissuaded if you believe that's the case for you. However, any case will take years to resolve and will be be an uphill battle.

I reached out to a lawyer in 2019 during smart redesign when I had 28.5 years in to argue potentially age discrimination should they cut me. The message I got basically was that at this point they could do what they wanted. May have an argument if I was a little closer to retirement, say a couple of months. I did not get separated then (nor yesterday). Cost me $250 but stated he would see me for free if they did separate me.

If you feel you have a really good argument for being separated for unjust cause and you have concrete proof, it may be worth it. But not to review a package.
