Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

"Verify Dependants"

WHAT the heck is that all about? Why do we have to send in proof of marriage licenses/certificates or birth certificates for our dependants? There is something bigger here that they're not saying.
This has NEVER been a thing in all my BAZILLION years in the private sector. What's up? Come clean why do you need copies of all this and WHY does everyone just blindly follow such stupid things??

Point is this- mortgage preaches "don't ask me for what you already know or have access to (data). Why is this any different? My boss doesn't know my family dynamics either but WF has acces to data. So why as an employee am I different than what we try to do for customers? Am I not a customer too? Again, I will provide the docs willingly cause guess what, I gotta get glasses for my kids and a ton of other things but I am being treated in a different manner than our customers; which I am one of.

Not sure what you expect with a company the size of Wells Fargo. My boss of 10 years wouldn’t be able to tell you how many kids I have, if they are boys or girls. nor does he know their names.

My guess is that WFC has the necessary info on some employees but not all the employees. Knowing how ineffectively they operate, they decided to start over from square one rather than sort through 250,000 records.

Here's what gets me riled up and didn't see one comment about. I am a Team Member, I mean "employee" - I bank and invest at WF, I provided a marriage license when my spouse and I combined accounts, I provided legal documentation when I opened accounts for my kids... why the F does the "know me" experience not apply to me? Am I not a customer as well as an "employee"? Do you not "know me" and have this information already? I'll provide it, fine. Insurance reasons, fine. Fraud purposes, fine. Again I could give 2 s's about the documentation request but it is just classic that we preach the "know me experience" but we don't even know our "employees". Please. Don't tell me to work / bank elsewhere etc. either, the point I am making is that if we don't "know" our employees, what the F do we know? Not much I guess. Just that 4 billion net profit means we're struggling. Nope, don't think so.

Why is that a big deal for you? The whole world now revolves around verifying and re-verifying. I have to re-verify my entire medical history every time I go see my doctor. (Actually, I don’t like that but it’s the price I pay if I want to see my Dr.)

If you think about it, Wells Fargo is a mishmash of all the companies they’ve acquired through the years. (Wachovia, whom WFC bought, was also a conglomerate of 10 or more companies). Each HR Department probably had different policies and dependent verification requirements.

I agree that this place is a hot mess, but I don’t have a problem with sending my child’s birth certificate every year if that’s what it takes for my kids to have health care coverage.

Seriously - be outraged by Charlie making 450X more money than you, but don’t let this get you worked up.

I was working for this company when I had my children who are covered dependents. So, now this company no longer has those records or verification? And now I’m supposed to provide my children’s birth certificates to a company that hasn’t retained the information they already had? Yes, I have my reservations.

Oh my! Surely there are more goings- on at Wells Fargo for employees to be outraged by. For example, EVERYTHING ELSE. I am always pro-employee, but anyone complaining about this is highly suspicious, IMO.

If you are defrauding WFC’s Medical Insurance, it raises the cost for all of us. And it also raises ethical concerns about someone who works at a financial institution. If you are concerned about WFC having your private information, I kind of understand that, but this is the world we’re living in today. Your information is everywhere, unfortunately. Domestic partners are covered but need to show proof of living at the same address for an extended period of time.

Frankly, I’m shocked that WFC even has their $hit together enough to ask this. No doubt their purpose is self-serving, as always, but I support the project.

The definitions, criteria. guidelines, and policy are so clearly spelled out on Teamworks, if I were in charge I’d not only fire any benefits thieves, but also automatically can anyone who calls in with a “question”. Either you seriously lack comprehension skills or you’re panicking and flailing around as you try to gauge how serious this really is.

It’s odd that you are so indignant about this. Wells Fargo isn’t required to cover your dependents on insurance. I don’t think it’s so much to ask that they are, in fact, your legal dependents. If you don’t like it, cover them somewhere else. As a shareholder of this company that subsidizes coverage for all of these so-called dependents, I think it is long overdue that they are requiring documentation.

insurance fraud is real.

if you have nothing but legit dependents, there's no issue. show it and you're good to go. Saying you don't want to share your data, etc - well sorry that's not how the world works. You have to show you meet eligibility to get a benefit.

And... if you're legit, you should support this because those claiming benefits when they're not legit are taking benefits away from you by increasing costs.

@rqh+1imwYSrz WFC and companies of their size are generally self-insured. They only pay insurance companies for plan administration by using their network of providers.

Well the choice is either do it, or don’t have coverage for your family. Most people will choose to cover their family. I think a lot have reservations, but there is no second choice for a lot of people.

For all you simpletons saying it's no big deal...YEA it is.
WHY the he-l do people just blindly follow things like this??? No I'm not saying any insurance fraud is happening. I'm asking WHY do you blindly follow these instructions?
Wear masks, stay away from others, stay out of the sun...it's just another ploy to control. And WF knows that it's either provide this info or loose coverage for people in your family. Its just sick!

I guess I'm someone that would never think of defrauding the insurance company. If that is what they are looking for then ok. But eventhough I don't have any "dependants" on my WF insurance I still have issues with their request to upload personal docs like that!!
There is no way they can guarantee the infirmation security. What a great racket..."we're a company that will verify your employee's information for you!"
So many just blindly follow STUPID directives.

We should all feel very comfortable sending children’s birth certificates, our bank statements, tax forms, etc to some random third party company..(sarcasm).. which reminds me that shortly after wells transitioned our 401K to be serviced by empower, they had a security breach.

Very true. You can almost count on BCs being stored in a third world country where American BCs will fetch quite a bit of money in the black market. Given the rampant corruption there, I leave the rest to your imagination !

Sometimes it's not the employer requiring this. It could be the insurer. This used to be uncommon but it's a growing trend. I wouldn't lay this one on Wells Fargo specifically.

I left Wells Fargo and went to a US defense contractor. I had to provide evidence of dependent status to cover my spouse on insurance.

to get domestic partner recognized don't they require some type of formal domestic partner registration? I'm guessing they provide a list of acceptable documents. Thankfully if I get asked I just have to head down to my local branch open up the safety deposit box and grab the docs. And for those worried about yours kids identity being stolen I suggest you reach out to the three main credit bureaus and freeze their ssns. On a similar note, last time I upped my life insurance I had to go in for a physical and blood word, how dare they.

For all you acting like this is normal or no biggie- it’s not. I’m in my 40s and have never been asked for this and we were in the military so I moved jobs quite a bit. With all the identity fraud and data loss from INSURANCE companies and third party vendors, the last thing I want is my children’s BC being saved all over the interwebs. K?? “They” claim they have security and mitigation steps to protect our info. Look at these zelle and wire scams. I’m ticked that they need an image when I’ve provided socials and we all have the same last name. By the way, they cover domestic partners so you can add a bf/gf with no marriage certificate required, as you aren’t married. This is overkill for US employees.

What’s the big deal? You dig out your marriage license and your kids’ birth or adoption certificates. In some cases it’s your domestic partner registration.

If you’re not scamming no problem.

  • Also, none terminated in the wake of this process will be eligible for unemployment. I cannot stress strongly enough the urgency of departing the firm before the deadline if you’ve been engaging in benefits fraud.

They aren’t playing around with this. Everyone, without exception, caught up in this verification dragnet will be terminated. If you are securities licensed, a permanent, career-ruining notation about theft of benefits will go on your U4. Possibly, something similar will happen for other licensures or professional designations. If you’ve been stealing benefits, it’s best to resign before the deadline.

If team members are found to have dependents that don't fall within the proper guidelines, they will be let go. It would be considered fraud, unethical, and just plain not smart. Worst part is for those engaging in this behavior, no severance. This is a standard check at most companies; like normal, WF is just catching up.
