Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Doug and his minions are leading model e to a doom

How can we trust a guy who barely knows anything about tech to be our leader? Not to mention his leadership team is basically his pals and bois from tesla and apple. Get out when you can, because he and his minions are leading model e to a doom.

Doug Field is spot on with his vision for the company. There is no future in ICE vehicles. Look at all the work going on in the fleet/commercial space, soon big semi trucks as you know them will be a thing of the dirty past. While the Ford transformation focus is mostly on consumer space, that doesn't mean Ford cannot scale up under Doug's leadership.

This was a tough week but what these actions do the past couple days is ensure Model e will be a leader in EV and connected data.

@hgb+1inCYiRW Well, since you listed all the pros for EVs, here are some of the cons.

  • Cost. Not only the initial cost is higher than ICE, the depreciation is higher as well due to the battery replacement cost.
  • Infrastructure/Range/Quick Recharging. Yes, it is expected that these improve in time, but we are not yet there.
  • Maintenance. Yes, it is cheaper than ICE, but still needed for power steering, cabin air filter, suspensions, etc. BEVs uses roughly double the tires than an ICE vehicle.
  • More pollution. I am expecting to see some "fees" later on for battery disposal.

Evs will gain range and they will charge faster. They will be fine as commuter vehicles, if you can charge at home and work. But for travel - we will not keep up with a rapid transition to EV. Look at it this way. Why are their cellphone charge ports everywhere? Why do we put them in cars? Everyone is always looking for someplace to plug in. We have gas stations all over the place where we can quickly refuel. Are we going to be able to replicate that experience? What do you think the service centers on the Ohio turnpike will look like if they need to accomodate the same volume of EVs? The roadtrip of the future will not be so great.

Please don’t use minions in this context. I love minions and they never fail to put a smile on my face. None of this makes me smile.

Right because EVs will never gain any more range or charge any faster than the ones that have come out in the first 5 years since automakers started making serious attempts at producing them.

If consumer driven economic is correct, you should see charging stations popping up in the gas stations along the interstate. (think range, EV #1 issue is RANGE, not cost.) Image that the customers would buy in the gas station if they will have to stick around for 30 mins rather than 5-10. Instead of 10 pumps, now I need 30. I also need to expand the woman's bath room too. WoW.

You know I'm right.

Ok listen let's forget about all the climate change stuff for a minute. EVs have no oil changes, heck almost no scheduled maintenance aside from a coolant change at 100k, they're quieter, more efficient (60% of gas burned in an engine just gets lost as heat), and way less complex with no engine, exhaust, fuel system, and accessory drive to deal with.

The battery tech is not quite there, but it's close, and now more than ever billions are getting dumped into improving that. Pretty soon a gas engine just isn't going to make sense. And this is coming from somebody who loves sports cars and will always keep a gas engine vehicle in my garage. But for a daily driver, I will gladly not deal with the hassle of maintaining/repairing a gas engine.

Ok now go ahead and down vote this for no reason, but you know I'm right.

I am looking forward to the break out of financials for Ford Blue, Model e, Pro, Subscriptions and Data. They are going to regret it showing these details. Future bonuses for each group should certainly be based only on that groups P & L.
