Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

RTO is a joke

I keep hearing that it's necessary because of collaboration and being a part of a team, but most times while I'm there, there are only a few of us present. In some cases, when I had to go in on a Friday, I was the only one there! Their excuses for RTO are pure bullsh-t. They want us back so that the expensive buildings they bought/rented are not empty and they don't feel like they wasted money. That's it.

I live in a Rust Belt area where we've taken hits to our local economy for a long time. Good paying jobs are rare, and competition for those jobs fierce and generally political. I would typically drive anywhere from an hour or more to work every morning, and an hour home. On bad traffic or road construction days, or in bad winter weather, that could easily stretch to 3 hours a day. We had a major thoroughfare shut down for about a year and a half. It was taking me 3 hours of commute time daily round trip. Manager would not budge, even to work from home from my laptop 1-2 days a week. Even though all my support staff worked from home whenever they wanted. Glad I left.

Fight back by not spending a single dollar in the area. Bring your own lunch and coffee. Two can play at this game.

I'm too busy DOING MY JOB to go to the office. The people I work with are all over the US and the globe, not in my zip code.

Yes, we are knowledge workers. It is offensive to employees that they think the rhetoric of collaboration is practical for everyone. Leadership cannot be taken seriously if they are require an individual to come into an office with zero actual collaboration taking place due to the geographic distribution of everyone on their team.
