What is a surplus offer?

What is it? Do you get severance or, are you just let go?

It used to be 12 mo. Now 6. Eventually 3, and probably not at all. We'll be lucky not to see our pensions dry up right when it is we need to access it. George Carlin knew what he was talking about :).

The offers depend on whether you are management or occupational, and what district you are in. Some have SIPP, some voluntary termination pay, and some just get a layoff notice.

There are voluntary offers that you can accept and sign and there are involuntary "offers" where you lose your job and you have a choice to sig for severance (no reason not to)

Being surplused is not an offer, it's a layoff.

You are laid-off and receive severance based on your term of employment (TOE) and can file for UI (Unemployment Insurance) benefits. In TX the UI is paid after your severance term of pay. In CA you can collect UI with severance immediately. Check with your state's UI department and see how receiving severance pay is handled when applying for UI benefits. Bad Moon Rising !!!

It's what decent companies offer their employees to leave the company.

Go to HR OneStop. Search “Severance”. You’ll see a document and read to see if you qualify based on job title, company and years of service.

You have worked for T for how long?
You are not part of the union?
You did not mention district you work in.
Union contracts vary by district and department
Again
Are you a new hirer?

A surplus offer is any incentive provided by a company to reduce employee headcount. A generous surplus offer, potentially offed by T, could be a 3-3-1 offer. 3 years to your age, 3 years to your NCS date, and 1 year of pay. And yes, you can collect unemployment pay.
