Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Survived this "round", but have no illusions of complacency.

As a purchased services design consultant, I survived numerous Ford workforce reductions going back to the Ford / Visteon spin-off. So odd, and sad, to see loyal direct Ford employees (and friends) getting let go, while I'm still here (survivor's guilt?). However, my contract expires 12/31/22 , and for the first time in over 25 years, I see my chances of supporting Product Design coming to an end. If you are one of the ones left standing, be aware that you viewed as either an asset, or an obstacle (to corporate profit); no more, no less. Plan accordingly...

They have come after agency, purchased service GSR and LL6 ranks. LL4+ tend to "retire." When are they coming for the LL5s?

If a person is "dead wood", they would know long before a layoff and would probably be let go (I don't know Ford's process for dismissing such employees). "

I do know the process. It is this:
Deadwood + toxic person = cut
Deadwood + be ess artist = keep employed or maybe promote
Deadwood + do nothing & useless = keep employed as deadwood

Saw many cuts and keeps this year that fit this criteria perfectly.

You are so far away from reality, intentionally or not.

"be aware that you viewed as either an asset, or an obstacle (to corporate profit); no more, no less." - I continue saying that none of the posters here know the criteria for a layoff and when thousands are let go, there are not resources or time to go beyond a superficial criteria in selecting people. I also continue saying that Ford has a review process and Career Navigator holds the truth about how management views your worth. If a person is "dead wood", they would know long before a layoff and would probably be let go (I don't know Ford's process for dismissing such employees).

This is the sad reality followed by good advice. "asset, or an obstacle" - Remember that. Don't let their crocodile tears fool you.
