IBM disguised Watson Health layoffs as a 'redeployment initiative'

"We were told we would be redeployed back into IBM," our source told us, noting that most if not all of the internal job opportunities available required relocation. "They never intended to place us, in my opinion."

Required relocation appears to have become a common tactic at IBM to avoid layoffs – it encourages workers to quit rather than go through a disruptive, unwanted move. In recent age-discrimination lawsuits against IBM, the company has been accused of using relocation as a way to get rid of older workers.

IBM has been facing lawsuits for age discrimination recently, sounds like they need to face more lawsuits from this cr-p too.

Does this surprise anyone? Watson health was sold off for its parts, not its technology. There are actually two corollaries to this narrative. One = Francisco partners had already passed on the folks who remained at IBM. Two = IBM is a transitioning legacy company to a Hybrid cloud / AI company so what skill sets did IBM see as essential to the cloud company? You guessed it None. This is just a replay of Lenovo except IBM wasn’t allowed to overstuff the acquired companies personnel. This is straight from IBM’s playbook. 30/90 for businesses they choose to exit. Expect more of this over the next few weeks
