Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Impact

Funny that Cisco spends all of this money on Impact, but can’t seem to find the budget to bring engineering teams together for strategic projects. I don’t know if it’s just my org, but it’s certainly frustrating.

Cisco has long treated employees differently Sales vá everywhere else - almost like 2 separate companies. This is not anything new. By the way before the pandemic an Impact event (or formerly GSX) used to cost north of 100M dollars so go tell engineering teams there was no budget for bringing teams together is a falacy

People who say “it’s a tax write off so it’s costs nothing” expose their ignorance of how tax law works.

A tax write-off is a tax deduction, meaning that it lowers your taxable income. So if a tax write off lowered your taxable income by $100, your tax bill is lowered by your highest marginal rate multiples by $100. In other words, at best, you’re spending $100 to lower your tax bill by $50. Also known as a terrible method to save money.

Tax write offs are not tax credits. The government isn’t going to lower your taxes by $100 because you spent $100 charitably.

Don’t fool yourself. Impact is classed as a training event and the costs are fully tax deductible. Impact doesn’t cost Cisco a cent in real terms.

Cisco employs low cost maintenance teams. Engineering, products, and patents are obtained through acquisitions.

Don't be mad because the company pays well the sales staff for acquired products that legacy engineers end up breaking in every way possible, and we have to work miracles to sell them. Why do you want to have a meetup? Most of you can't even hold a two-minute conversation amongst yourselves.
