Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What happened to EMITs budget?

Seems like we are cutting all over the place. Anyone know what project / software license broke the bank?

We didn't even last six months before we went back on lock down. It is a shame. Makes it really hard to just do your job if you can actually get out to do your job.

EMIT needs to stay in their lane. Previous VP using IT to compete against engineers and researchers drove them out of business. My computing needs are not met in the base case but yet EMIT is focused "innovation."

EMIT LTs are still flying like birds.

Many energy companies successfully outsourced IT to 3rd party companies in circa 2008 at one-fifth the cost of a Brussels or Houston employee.

In 2022, we are finally outsourcing much of the "must do" IT work to Managed Service Providers primarily in India (HCL and others). The cost of IT companies in India is still one-fifth to one-seventh the cost of a Houston or Brussels employee.

When you operate in the "CLOUD" it does not matter where your IT employee is located.

EMIT never gets enough money, XOM is the only company that has steered away from becoming a more technical company. Opting for quick budget wins instead of long term operational excellence and automation, which leads to long term cost improvements and drives higher revenue. EMIT also never gets to make its own decisions. Might as well just keep sending the jobs to MSP at this point and let the business continue to suffer.
