Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Great way to earn extra cash from unused PTO.

Here’s how it works. Your WFH address is Montana for a year. Never take PTO. Change your WFH address to a low tax state like Florida. HR will then cash out your unused PTO. Finally, change your WFH address back to Montana and repeat process.

Life is good. Just kicking back on my porch with a great view of the mountains of Glacier national Park in Montana. Accruing almost unlimited PTO and getting ready to hibernate in Florida for the winter so I can cash out all that unused PTO.Yes. That’s correct. My manager approves my relocations. Life is good. What? Everybody else is stuck RTO?

If you transfer to a different state that’s not part of the three states, the WF policy will cash out all but one week worth of unused PTO. Each year, you can carry over one week of PTO. This little known HR policy is buried in the new HR website notes. Can anyone in HR confirm?

So long as income reported in your fed and state tax returns, should be ok. Did not know that some state locations allow a cash out, something WF allowed years ago. I thought current policy was if you don't use, you lose.

Your mistake is trusting HR to payout your unused pto in the middle of all these so called moves correctly. Just look at Workday, its a cluster of all clusters. Good luck getting help from HR when it all goes wrong. Likely get fired too.

The problem is that your manager need to approve your move. So now your manager is on the hook. Good luck trying to get them to jeopardize their career

That’s correct According to HR. There are two or three states where you can continue rolling over your PTO up to a designated cap. If you transfer to one of other states not part of the carryover cap, HR will then cash out unused PTO on the next pay cycle. Just read that in the team member handbook.
