Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Fake LI Post

It’s a horrible tactic to post pictures on LinkedIn to give the public the false impression that employees here actually socialize outside of work to have fun and that we treat each other like a “family”. I wish it was the case, but it’s so far from the truth it makes me cringe. Invitations to connect usually come with strings attached.

Nobody laughs in my area and we rarely talk to each other.

Exxonmobil at one point was like a family. The pip, jacked up ranking and promotion of folks that couldn’t make it in their discipline but had the gift of gab has ruined the company. Now it’s merely folks with badge numbers that compete every day to just survive at the expense of anyone in their way. Including innocent folks that do their job and stay to themselves. At least in Baton Rouge. That place is ruthless.

I worked for Exxon and EM for over 30 years. In all that time, there were maybe a dozen colleagues who I liked and respected enough to want to spend any time with them outside work.

As for the rest of them? Well, it ranged from “I enjoyed our discussion at work, but that’s enough, thanks”,‘though “I’ll be polite and civil if I run into you, but I’ll do my best to avoid you”, to “if you were on fire, I wouldn’t cross the street to pi$$ on you”.

I would recommend that you monitor on LinkedIn what employees and managers "LIKE" and "COMMENT" on in their feeds. There are some interesting trends especially in Diversity and Inclusion topics.

If you have a manager/supervisor that is "biased" to one diversity and inclusion "LIKE" on LinkedIN watch out especially if you are not in the group that he/she "LIKES".

H/R should also monitor LINKEDIN. The trends are easily recognizable and easily tracked.

ExxonMobil is like a very tight family. We meet after work every day, we just do not invite you and we keep it a secret from you.

My colleagues are a bunch of antisocial nerds, 75% asian or indian, 90% early career, there's no connection, no community either, only transactional exchanges and always requests of help, never offers. This trend has exacerbated in the last years.

Yep, it's the same here, no community or teamwork or connection.
