Just got notice today that they were ending the term on 9/16 for certain yards in the CA Bay Area.

OP - for us non union folks can you provide some details about this? How many people does this impact? Are they employees or contractors?
We just had 2 Term Temp FT's let go. There might be 4. South Florida.

NOT TRUE! There are several business units, i.e., ABFS technicians are safe in out of region areas due to the workload! This is an indisputable fact T laid off several ABFS technicians back in 2017 in OOR and six months later were scrambling trying to hire them back because they realized they had made an error in judgement. Unfortunately, the techs already secured employment elsewhere and didn't want to return to T. I don't think they'll make that mistake again!

Doesn't necessarily mean massive layoffs across the board throughout the company. It'll certainly be targeted! Some areas of the country won't even be impacted at all due to the workload. I believe my business unit is in good shape and will be over looked at least for the next 3-5 years!
This was predicted last week on the "Any Projects Ending Early?" thread by a permanent OPT. I asked Bay Area OPTs, and it was confirmed today that only 2 Term Yards were to be closed on 9/16.
A BAU yard has permanent teams and a TERM yard would be a yard opened up for TERMs only eg Fremont or San Jose Berryessa between end of 2015 and July 2019 when the initial Fiber Project ended when AT&T met its "passings" commitment as a result of the DirecTV acquisition.
Yippie!!! It's a good thing it's only in the "in-region" areas of the country!

“Terms” are technicians that are hired on 2-4 year terms of employment that can be ended at any time, as well as extended. Terms generally get 2 weeks notice before their term ends and don’t get termination pay or a lot of other benefits. If you work alongside a term, they will likely tell the crew they are being let go.
As long as there are terms on the payroll, they can’t have a surplus for that job title and location. Ending there term now allows for the company to announce a surplus on the 15th.
What does ending the term mean? What role do you have that qualified you to receive said notice?
