If you want to balme Indian engineers for bad quality, go ahead, blame Kumar (Ford Blue CEO), Jagadesh Sorab (Engine Chief Engineer), Indy Singh (PTME Director), Saliesh Korasar (Manager EPE), etc. However, bad F150 10R Transmission, bad quality is not because of Indian or Mexican or Black or P**y engineers, it is because of bad quality at Livonia Transmission Plant that makes it. The same 1080 Trans is made by GM using Ford engineering, and GM is not having problems / recalls with their 10R80 Transmission.
and the problem may not be even with LTP but with their supply base, Linamar, Magna, Means, American Axle, Husco, EFI, etc. And not because they are bad suppliers but because the Supplier Technical Assistance Dept is basically gone.
Blame Purchasing leadership Keith Combs, et al for letting STA die unceremoniously, STA kept Ford suppliers on their toes and now that STA is now a shell of what it used to be Bingo, bad supplier quality is showing up.
FYI F150 10R80 Trans was launched several years ago. Quality issues today are not design related, any racist comment just show the ignorance and lack of knowledge of Ford products.
STA of the caliber of Liam O'neal, Jeff Gibson, Steve Bolas, Sam Ramirez, Aaron Garza, Asif Husain, etc. were never recognized for their workethic and outstanding results. Now Ford is paying he consequences.
STA used to report to Purchasing and last year it was splitted into many depts reporting to several divisions. Whoever allowed STA to be diluted is directly responsible for bad Ford Quality
Once a product is launched, Quality issues are related to supplier issues.
I helped a buddy with transmission problems on his Edge (6R50 transmission) was failing. Varsity Ford was so backlogged with transmission problems that it would take a month to repair. So he decided to move it to a transmission repair shop. It completely died right sm--k in entrance to Varsity! A tow truck was called. A few minutes later a fuming F150 owner pulled along side exiting Varsity. He stopped and shared his horror story that Varsity couldn't fix his 10 speed transmission under warranty.
To many green engineers especially in India...
