My project was canceled, and we have nothing to work on. Is this done prior to big layoffs? Is your project being canceled as well?

Management is just the worst.
What's the difference? Project, no project, the management and fellows just sit around scheming all day.
So what do those engineers do all day if they have no work? Group I'm in is massively understaffed with no backfill in sight, yet we have entire teams sitting around doing nothing?

Yes. In AXG after cr-p PVC was released. We have line of sight for next proj. Sitting duck feeling is starting to permeate into team
Only a sitting duck if you let that happen. Get your stuff together and apply for new job. Don't sit around waiting.
yes bro you are. this is your chance to contact everyone you know within intel and try and make a bridge to a new team. my project was cancelled abruptly in 2020 and much pain soon followed. try and get out of intel.
Don’t worry, they’ll transfer your entire group to a new area to staff up for another failed project in the making.
