FORD says that we should not apply for unemployment benefits until our severance package (# of months that ford paid us) expires. I will apply for unemployment starting on Sep 1st 2022 and so should everybody else. Let Ford protest. The purpose is to create more unnecessary work for Ford. The people who got let go should create more unnecessary work for FMC. Please encourage all your SIRP’ed friends to apply for unemployment starting Sep 01 2022.

Ford has a team dedicated to processing unemployment claims. It is all they do. If all of the 2K who were let go and are not retirement eligible file for unemployment, Ford is staffed to handle the claims. It won't hurt them at all.
Depends on where you live, what will happen. I live in Florida and have been laid off before. The state unemployment department will deny benefits if you are receiving severance income and they ask. Gov. DeSantis would prefer that unemployment assistance didn't exist so they do everything possible to deny the maximum benefit of $275 per week, a help but not enough to live on. Food for thought to those who think people go on unemployment to avoid working ... Can YOU live on $275 a week? Do the math. Anyway, in Florida, there is no point in doing what the OP suggested because Ford won't need to block it, the state will. For the Michiganders, I have no idea what your situation is.
There is nothing wrong in having a cheap mentality when F doesn't have any ethics.
Be very careful with such a strategy. If they protest and you lose, you could be disqualified from applying once your severance runs out, if you haven't found another job. Do your diligence on this and understand what you may be getting yourself into. It's also work for you as well - word to the wise.
This is exactly why you people were fired, having a cheat type mentality.
Get the severance package money deposited first and then start the unemployment.
