offered voluntaries to low performers only. Once it hit the local newspapers, they quickly backtracked and offered it to all. Not sure if anyone else remembers this.

They say the last round was position related, which is an outright LIE! You can move a group and re-name them, but it doesn't make it a NEW position/function.
They wanted to get rid of the fast-growing retirees. They sprinkled in a few oddballs for good measure, to try to avoid a lawsuit. Lawyers are smart enough to smell the BS in this move! Time to lawyer up!
2021 VSSP was not offered Company wide, neither was 2020.
@plg+1j21eSbm Come on now the VSSP 2006 list was the feeder list for the 2007 involuntary offers. If you were on the essential list for VSSP you were not on the 2007 hit list

Why would an LL5 exclude low performing friends from the 2006 voluntary buyout? Wouldn't it be more logical to protect them from the involuntary cuts in 2007?
The 2006 ‘essential’ list was a scam. LL5 put his low performing friends on the essential list. He then pulled me aside and told me he knew that I was essential, but that I would not be cut in next layoff because I was a TA and stack ranked as #2 in his department.
LL always game the system and protect the poor performers who drink and golf with them
Our manager took it, but his very old mom hassled him about it, saying the newspaper said people leaving were all low performers.
VSSP is rarely offered Company wide. Usually, specific organizations are included or excluded. The last one that was Company wide was 2006 and even that one has some folks who were considered 'essential' and were excluded. 2017 was pretty widespread but I don't think it was Company wide.
