Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I am in shock.

Of all the things to do next, they chose to reward all the quiet quitters, and give just them free 9 months pay. Really?

Ford entitlement,,, boo hoo I didn’t get 9 months of pay to go away,,, now I will work 10 hours a week instead of my usual 12 to get even

Get a grip folks most people get 2 weeks pay when they are fired or zero. Count your blessings as Fords trajectory is not good. The feeding trough will be closing.

The problem is, and the reason I believe everyone should get the VSSP offer ...

NOT getting a VSSP offer doesn't mean you are safe from the next round of involuntaries.

How are they getting ripped off? Why would a company offer a package for someone to leave that they wanted to stay? That makes no sense. Hey, you are a great employee and we really need you to lead this project - here is a buyout package. If your decision on whether or not you want to retire is based on getting a package, perhaps you aren't ready to retire. Severance packages are hush money. Money to quickly eliminate many employees without dealing with lawsuits. They aren't free money. If you are a valued employee but want to retire, then do so. If you need 9 months pay to retire, then work 9 months.

Here I fixed it for you: The good 30 year employee who isn't offered a package IS getting SO ripped off.

@2rto. The poor performance may not have been long term. Sometimes it is manufactured. The company doesn't want to invest training or a hot assignment on someone who may be leaving soon. An older employee may occupy an LL6 position they want to free up for someone younger. The good 30 year employee who isn't offered a package is not getting ripped off. They still have a job. They can choose to stay or go. That is better than not having a choice.

@2zyd
While I understand the sentiment, here is the problem;
Imagine two 30 year employees sit next to each other at Ford. One, always a great employee and the other always a marginal/poor employee.
Assume each had equal pay, benefits, and pension.
Here we are in 2022 and the company is jettisoning employees and both are retirement eligible but the poor performer will be rewarded and made nine months of salary richer on the way out as an enticement to leave.
That is the shame of it. What are we to make of such a company for not having dealt with (fired) the poor performer over the years. Situation is F’d up.

What is so difficult to understand? If you want to be pushed out, make yourself less valuable. Otherwise, if you want to stay, and are performing a valuable function, you need to be aware of the trends. Are you being given good, long term assignments? Or is there a replacement process or individual coming on line? The company went to quarterly checkins because they are stringing you along 1 quarter at a time.

What exactly is the wording in the email that indicates it is for low performers? Can someone post at least that portion of it? Thanks

I asked my boss. He said he wishes he could give it to me, but can't, only for poor performers

@2zyd+1j2wB9Jv because its not really just low performers getting the invite, that is the spin Ford is using to avoid lawsuits when they terminate the invitees that don’t take the voluntary.
I can’t believe how incredibly gullible posters are, maybe its because they want to believe they are valued by Ford because they didn’t get the invite? The easiest person to fool is the man in the mirror

Only if you are a designated poor performer will you be contacted.

Will this be filtering down to GSRs soon? If management just got an email when will we hear?

They don’t need to offer we already left. Only deadbeats left now..the company will be a shell soon….good luck hiring newbies off the street…take them about 3 years b4 they are competent enough to do a good job

Why in G*ds name would Ford want to pay high performers to leave?!

“Hey you’re awesome gtfo” doesn’t seem like a good way to fix our quality probs or build a better company. At this point it seems some of y’all are on here complaining about not being paid to leave and don’t gaf about the future of the company no matter how much you complain about leadership.

No, we shouldn’t pay our best employees to leave, and my guess is this is the way to tell the cr---y ones to go quietly or risk being laid off. I don’t want any more slackers joining my teams and slowing us down, let them leave without the threat of a lawsuit, JFC.

It's not 9 months pay for all. Depends on the years of experience, just like with the SIRP.

What do you expect? If they know you are leaving anyway, or you are performing on a project that will be wrapping up next year, why would they give you incentive to leave now? You needed to force their hand.

Ford management is a joke. Sell your stock. Take your retirement in lump sum. This place is not going to be around much longer.
