Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Jobs are drying up

I'm not sure how many of you are currently in the process of looking for a new job, but I've been periodically looking at what's available and lately, I've noticed there are fewer and fewer good options. Most of FAANG are under a hiring freeze and other major companies are following suit. Add to that the layoffs all over the place, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried.

If you can't find another job in tech right now you would probably not have much success shooting fish in a barrel either

I have been looking around and applying and have found tons of opportunities. Is it possible that it is just your role is less open at the moment? You might be able to apply in other parallel career tracks.

There is still a labor shortage as far as I can tell. https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-illness-made-labor-force-shrink-reason-for-labor-shortage-2022-9

Lots of hiring going on and I've gotten the same number of recruiter asks this year as I did last. I also haven't had any trouble with Cisco listed on the resume. Lots of small companies don't even know who Cisco is, the fortune 500's seem to figure Cisco people know their way around corporate and don't seem bothered by a Cisco position.

I think getting hired is just about a numbers game - send in about 200 resumes (if you don't want to do it yourself - you can always hire someone on fiverr for $120) and you should get back about 10-20 interviews and 5 or so job offers.

Ton of great opportunities in tech
If you have been at Cisco too long, than you are considered damaged goods
