Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Ego politics

One of our talented colleagues couldn't get along with well our manager. Slowly, the manager sidelined him. He left the company couple of months back. When I asked my manager regarding the former resignation, he mentioned that "it is not the end of the world". Now, after he left, the rest of the team is struggling in his area and now my manager is thinking of moving that project to India.

A typical example of ego politics is from a mediocre manager. Anyone else came across such a situation, will it happen only in cisco?

He doesn’t want to own the piece due to the ego clash with the original developer.

Unless your manager is in India, why would anyone want to move a project they own to India?? The idea is to hang on to what you have in a sh-t storm, not give it away. Your manager must be some kind of stupid...

That's how a Manager becomes a Director at Cisco. Next if the manager could just layoff a few full-time employees, and replace them with contractors... that's how you become a Senior Director

After India, they can move that project to Krakow, Poland. Lots of Ukrainians have moved to that city to escape the war.

Don’t worry. India folks have been also leaving Cisco for better wages. Let your boss enjoy that idea and make up the plan to upper; then suffer of the delivery. He will soon put focus back to development plan for you guys.

Moving a project to India is the death knell for the product. The worst thing Cisco does is pretend that the India team is a collaborative partner. Attrition is worse in Bangalore once they figure out Cisco sends dying/useless software to India. They bolt out of boredom.
