Why would company leadership create and allow such bad PR, horrible optics, and ill will? This company is adrift in a sea incompetence and arrogance.

@2ulu I agree. Race to the bottom. Don’t work hard at your Job and get rewarded extra when you chose to depart. Heck, don’t bother paying off student loans anymore because big government will make sure the taxpayers cover it -payola so that you vote the way they want you to vote 😉. Seems like the population is ripe for universal gov paid income.
Work hard - do your job well and the reward it to leave with your pension. This is a great benefit that so many don't have anymore (including Ford people hired after 2004). However, if you have 8 years or more and you know you want to leave, then stop working and you get paid to leave. This is a bad message for the people that have the drive to do good work. What will this do to long term productivity?
If you want to retire, do what people always have done - give your notice and leave. If you wanted a package, you had all year to not so quietly quit. A company isn't going to give packages to people they want to stay. Perhaps if you regularly show such inane thought patterns at work you will get a package.
It is time you accept you are going to retire next month without a package.
