Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Drawing the line on being a team player.

There was a time when I was the only male on the team. I had no issues with my other teammates as they were fantastic individuals. We collaborated and accomplished quite a bit. The only time I did not collaborate is when they all flew into town, then after work, decided to go barhopping. Being a married man, I was not going to go out with a bunch of women barhopping. Ironically, shortly after that, I received a phone call that I was being transferred to another team. What was more confusing, was that I was still going to be supporting that team, which was negotiated with the new supervisor.
Please share your opinions about this situation. Thanks.

Sounds like OP was a team player. What I’m reading into this is that the team lead neglected to follow diversity, equity, and inclusion guidelines, by going barhopping which could be deemed as inappropriate. Maybe if the team lead made the venue as a team lunch in the office, Would it be deemed as more appropriate? It does sound a bit suspicious that OP would be transferred out of the team shortly thereafter. How long did the remaining females all stay together? I know I wouldn’t be very happy if I was transferred to another team and having to do both jobs with the old team and the new team. Agreed that individuals get transferred all the time, though it appears it’s a matter of perception when the only male is transferred out.

OP, if it did not affect you financially or in terms of moving up, then you have a weak or no case. Consider it a plus they moved you. On the other hand, if it did, you may want to look into a Discriminations case against them. You are not required to attend after hour events to do your job.

So true. I’m so tired of DEI. I do know one thing, there is no way that I would end up on a team as the only guy. I do remember a team where there was only one guy and the ladies did gang up and pushed him out. I believe it was just due to an unfortunate Situation with none supervisors resigned.

He's protecting himself from being falsely 'me too'd' accused. It says more about you that you can't see that, or care.

Welcome to the side effect of the DE&I propaganda be pushed. I think it’s a good thing that old wrongs being committed are finally being scrutinized. The company wants DE&I, teams will scrutinize every act. For example, one team member brings donuts to the office for the team, though neglected to consider the one team member who is a known diabetic. This is an example of exclusion??? Where do we draw the line???
This becomes to WOKE for me…

Trying to make something out of nothing. You are not collaborating during a bar hoping event, so that’s not an issue. Also, why does being a married man stop you from taking part in an event? That says more about you than anyone else.

This is just like pulling the race card. You're trying to pull the gender card? Or the anti social card?

Some individuals are fortunate enough to be transferred to a real supervisor who is also a leader. I was transferred to a very lethargic supervisor who eventually resigned from the company. Nobody liked her management style even those outside of her own team. These days I’m somewhere in between being quietly fired and quietly quitting, while traveling around the world, collecting a biweekly paycheck and a super nice large bonus, annually.
I probably should’ve joined a start up company, as most teams I work with are very lethargic, and only care about their biweekly paycheck.

I was once transferred to another manager against my will. It wound up being one of the best moves that happened to me as the new manager actually rewarded me for being a great employee after the initial "this is a bad employee" BS from the people they had been talking to was proven false.

I eventually wound up leading the team I was transferred to.

Yep. I remember a bunch of Indian contractors needing help to design a new data mart. Our biz team wasted so much time showing them how to point-and-click when we could’ve built it ourselves. This company giveth and this company taketh…

Sounds like you do have a good case. In this day and age of DE&I, Since you were transferred, and if none of the other teammates were transferred within the same timeframe, Just the perception alone is a cause for inquiry.

I opened up an inquiry with HR to determine the timing of the team offsite and the transfer. An attorney suggested I have a good case. Just waiting on the necessary paperwork.

My interpretation: you were a horrible fit for that team and the manager did the best thing they could do by finding a new position instead of letting you go.

Honestly most of their reorg decisions make no sense these days so I doubt that was it.

Probably not a grand conspiracy, but who knows. I don't go out drinking with peers either. If they really want to fire me over it I don't want to work for such an employer anyway.

There's no rhyme or reason when they transfer people. It happens all the time. Probably needed to balance out the number of direct reports on your new team.
