The LEADERSHIP is the union. It doesn’t make a damn what you & everyone else in the union wants, it doesn’t matter how you vote, it doesn’t matter how “strong” you are. None of it matters if the union leadership(the U management team) is going to bypass the will of the members.

"I was a cable splicer in DALLAS 20 years ago & I don't remember having 2 pay scales and if the union allowed this then I would quit the union."
As I said this practice started with the operators -
2004 contract -
- Operator $831/wk.
- Console Operator/$695.20/wk
2009 contract -
- Service Rep $1,122/wk.
- Leveraged Service Rep $$673/wk.
2013 contract
- Group 1 craft Comm Tech $1,492.50/wk
- Premise Tech $939/wk
So not 20 years ago but 18 years ago is when T started this mess. They were quite pernicious because they started with the lowest paid group, operators, that most bargained employees didn't really think much about and they were right since the membership ratified it after a 4 day walkout OVER THE WEEKEND! Then the service reps which again "who cares as long as I keep my benefits". Then the Comm Techs - contract ratified.
The membership IS the union! Weak membership = a weak union! I can tell you that when I started back in 1989 there were plenty of "old heads" still with the company that had walked out on strike a few times. They would have NEVER voted to ratify those contracts. I'm serious! I remember being in the business office with a service rep who had over 25 years of service - at 4:30 if she was on a customer call she would tell the customer she needed to hand her call off to her manager because her shift was over,, grab her purse and knock on her managers cubicle on her way out to tell her there was a call waiting on her at her desk AAANNNNDDD her manager TOOK OVER THE CALL!

I remember having a pre-meeting before the regular union meeting and we saw the new prem-tech contract. We all thought it was terrible. I’ve always thought that the prems would get up to core scale but, I guess it’s not in the cards. Most core techs that I know would love to see the prems get treated right.
That was some shameful sh-t approving that 2-tier pay contract. As long as you can say "GOT MINE", sc--w the newbies right?
"I've been retired for 20 years now. As a Tech around 2000 my base pay was $40+ per hour. With some OT I earned around $150k my retirement year."
"....these D.A.'s are paying $20 per hour?"
"....what's with paying 1/2 in 2022 from what I was earning in 2000?"
If you were around 20 years ago and if you were a tech in Southwest you should know what happened - 2 tier payscales.
New hires were given a different title with a lower payscale than the existing techs doing the exact same work. They did it to operators first, then service reps, and the techs over several contracts. Contracts were ratified every single time. Before someone starts trashing the union - a union is only as strong as its members. The members voted to ratify the contracts instead of walking out on strike. Meanwhile executive level pay is thru the roof but non-management has seen little to no wage growth when measured against COLA, erosion of benefits, and persistent layoffs!
Red* even
If you need to give out bonuses to attract people to a job, it’s a huge reg flag.
They can't get people to be abused in the prem tech position anymore and many there have left or are leaving. I hear right-to-work states like Texas are especially having trouble since the management loves to fire people on the spot for showing up 1 minute late. Just another consequence of a horribly managed company and their toxic management policies making their way down to the lowest rung positions. Prem tech position is garbage.
I've been retired for 20 years now. As a Tech around 2000 my base pay was $40+ per hour. With some OT I earned around $150k my retirement year.
So 20 years later and suffering BidenFlation these D.A.'s are paying $20 per hour?
Many fast food restaurants now pay $15 or more flipping burgers & making tacos.
What happened, did too many Techs quit or retire? And what's with paying 1/2 in 2022 from what I was earning in 2000?
I would not go back to work for AT&T if they paid a $50k sign on bonus with a $250k salary. No way. No how!
Looks like Santone & Stankey bit off more than they can chew - it takes years to learn the Technical Jobs and get good.
Kind of hard to do with a company wide hiring freeze that’s been going on since July.
Exceptions are being made in regards to the hiring freeze. There was an exception for a call center to hire more call reps and this is very accurate and reliable information. So, exceptions can be made, therefore, hiring more personnel when there is a business case to support it!
That is for Wire Tech's and Premises Technicians only

Are you OP with T? Obviously yes, as you provide incomplete information.
The bonus will be paid out in parts — $1,000 after working 90 days, $1,500 at six months and the remaining $2,500 after one year of working.
Probably has to do with the lump sum dropping 100k
