@1lhs+1j9KWzFS Could not be truer. My family has lived in TX for over 50 years. Around 2010 or so is when all of the tech and customer service companies started relocating. The locals were not bothered much, TX is a big place that was full of friendly people, until the wave that started 8 or so years ago.
Austin is not what it used to be. DFW a bunch of transplant sprawl. Clearly the local gov’t just wanted the tax base - state of the power grid is exhibit A. TX used to be a moderate cost of living state where everyone in a town knew everyone. Now you don’t have income tax but property tax is high, sales tax is high, gov’t fees are high, cost of living climbing from all the transplants competing with locals for housing, etc and you’re surrounded by people who just moved for a job.
The people posting all the political bluster of TX probably aren’t originally from here. Texans are more like that post says - You’re not from TX. TX loves you anyway. But there are fewer of us and more “big city” hot shots moving in, buying boots and a hat then railing against ‘D Cities’ every day. This is not my TX.
lolz, you clearly haven't eaten much in TX. As far as your 'D cities are super safe!' theory goes, it's laughable. You apparently live in an odd exception. Here's a cookie. The vast majority are S holes. I've lived in 3 top 25 cities in my life, and none were even close to safe. Dirty, dr-g infested, overpriced, tyrannical, paved over S holes. If that's what you like, go for it. Just stay out of TX.
Workers have WAY too many protections as it is. No one has to work anymore ever, and they can hold that FTE spot hostage and absolutely sc--w the company that was unfortunate enough to hire them.
Also, we’re gonna pay those “low-skilled” people you’re talking about at least $20/hour in a low cost of living area. Wells Fargo is a premier employer in low cost of living areas because of that. The fact that we comply with socialist California and NYC worker laws make it all the more appealing to work there for the lazy and unambitious who are looking to coast at 40k per year for all eternity.
How will the exchange servers function without power when Texas' third world power grid fails yet again for temps that most other states get regularly?
@1gbo I live in one of the biggest cities in America, in one of the most liberal states and regularly forget to lock my house doors when going out. It doesn't matter since there's almost no crime in my neighborhood and everyone knows who lives here.
We were recently ranked one of the top 50 safest cities in America.

I would never leave my pro-worker state to live in a red sh!t#ole state. Especially considering how bad the food in Tex@$$ is.
It's because there's a corrupt, big business friendly government there that they can grease for tax breaks, fewer worker protections, and a low skill population they can take advantage of with lower pay. It's the same reason any other company outsources to the third world, Texas is just the domestic third world. Get real, they were not moving to generously provide their employees with a lower cost of living 🙄
I was at JP in 2018 and they were making a big push to have people move to their hub in TX - less crime, lower taxes, and cheaper cost of living - people in NJ and NYC without roots there loved it. Not shocked Wells is 4-5 years behind JP on this...
Gotta love it. Wells has been denying “project falcon” in motion for years & once the city approved it the governor announces it! Read the statement from wells carefully “bring us all together “ ie: new hub.
@1zkl+1j9KWzFS Cloud and tech only part of the story. Look at the other corporate campuses for FIs that are there. That’s the real story - they’ll be trying to pull talent from the local pool.
I left for one of those other FIs and try as they may, WF’s reputation precedes it. When I tell people I was here for almost 15 years they mostly ask how I lasted that long. A few folks here have left to go to WF and came running back. Mostly tech and risk.
The bank must have tapped out the diversity market hiring in the other states. Texas will make it easier for them to force ratio their workforce further. I don’t think this an inflammatory thought based on the corporate messaging
Interesting, Out of all the responses and nobody has asked why. Just diatribe of bashing the state and the company.
There is a reason why and it relates to WF's vision going forward and the cloud. Texas is a very large tech state and cloud hosting. From that perspective it makes total sense and is a no brainer, really.
And before you internet warriors get all of your pa----s in a bunch, I am not a fan of Texas nor the company and who is running things.
Every bad decision that the execs have made has come from SF, NYC, and Minneapolis. It's well past time to try an alternative hub as a source for future leaders.

If Texas DID secede, the state would start immediately overflowing with people from all across the country. I would consider moving my family there and I currently live in another red state.

So we’re proudly expanding in a state whose officials tried to overthrow our country’s democratic election in 2020 (Texas v. Pennsylvania) and whose AG states LGBT people should be criminalized. Kind of makes the barrage of corporate responsibility and DEI emails seem like the nervous utterances of a liar.
