Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Wait for it...edit/copy/paste in January JD.

"Like many other companies in a zero rate world — Meta has drifted into the land of excess — too many people, too many ideas, too little urgency," Altimeter CEO Brad Gerstner wrote in the letter. "This lack of focus and fitness is obscured when growth is easy but deadly when growth slows and technology changes."

Kbv don't get me started on design, every reset they say they want to cut redundant middle managers and fat cats, and then its a nepotistic game of musical chairs to build it all back up again. At this point in the nightmare, I'd be fine to cut all creative leadership and report into merch. At least my direction would be more...direct, and less about getting into the esoteric complexity of an art school crit with my multiple competing directors when apparel is literally best known for flood color sweat sets. Cmon.

The next reorg will be about cutting the fat from ND. It’s all repeating. Somebody will come with a “brilliant idea” of “hey, consumer shop in multi brand and don’t really care about brand, they want choice”.
The one after it will be “hey, consumer love sports, we need to offer them category focused product. We lost touch, we need to know running consumer, football, basketball.” “Wow! Brilliant!”
We’ve been there… history repeating.

Depends when Tim Cook does the same at Apple. Nike usually copy/pastes what Apple does a few months later anyway. Just look at the work from home policies.

Kbv don’t you think the new org structure was always supposed to make it easier to find redundancies. The product offering is out of control.

You could literally cut 30%-40% of the Product teams and there would be no impact on revenue. Only significant impact on EBIT by reducing redundant resources and driving focus and efficiency for everyone. Design in particular is a mess. How many people do you need in “color” for paint by numbers? MS clearly lost his magic since the CDA disaster - A gender structure for a $50b company? Sports now under gender? Zero focus on the consumer through a loss of merchandising capability? No connection to the brand? No connection to the consumer. Just one… big… mess… JD should just pull the plug and go back to categories.
