B2B loses car allowance

Going to a mileage reimbursement, while having to deduct standard commute to the office.

I'm in a big city and live pretty far from the office so I have to deduct 52 miles per day before I get "reimbursed." Basically this is a $500/mo paycut. Yay

When I was in B2B, obviously way prior to pandemic, we had to come into the office first. We did had our team meetings and calls. We were told to schedule customer meetings after arriving at the office. Rest of the employee had to deduct mileage as well. A lot of these reps got reimbursed during covid. Some reps are making more on mileage as well.

I don't think any of you understand this . We don't actually go into an office . So deducting a commute to a place we don't go makes zero sense. If you live more than 30 miles away from your "office" the one you never go to you still need to deduct 60 miles a day . I live in my territory I couldn't be any closer but the office is in Atlanta 170 miles away. Why should I be punished I live in my territory. This is the gripe I have no problem going to mileage. But to ask us to basically drive 60 miles a day with no reimbursement is not right.

Hey man I too think this is BS I took the job in November with a car allowance now I'm being forced to deduct 60 miles a day that I'm not driving basically cancelling out anything I would make from the mileage reimbursement. Just because I didn't lose my job doesn't mean what Verizon is doing is right . SAMs have some of the hardest jobs between endless customer service BS and sky high quota. We are losing people to TMobile every day .

Good for Verizon to lower costs on this entitlement benefit while reps walk their dogs at home pretending to work. Verizon rates are higher and customers are leaving to other providers! Keep cost cutting... And yes VZ Management... You are doing a good job. Next step is to layoff 25 percent of VBG staff who work with all retail indirect and channel. Useless positions! Lol

We still reserve the right to bi--h even if we are not the worst-impacted. I’m not going to be “grateful” that my benefits are being eroded at what was once a high paying employer in the area.

If these wages and comp plans don’t translate as well into high CoL areas (they don’t) it greatly reduced the quality of the talent they will get when they inevitably backfill our positions.

Telecom is not known for having sufficient area adjustments (if you make $36/hr in OK, they pay $41/hr in CA, etc.) so they’re relying on long term residents who bought cheap houses to fill their positions.

I didn't see anyone complaining when you were still getting that monthly allowance during Covid. Stop complaining and get over it. And, if you haven't been RIF'd this go around, maybe you should for the next. Have some compassion for those losing their job on 12/30, I'm sure they wouldn't care about the car allowance and just happy to still have their job.

I like how people come here to defend a $7200 pay cut, can you make it any more obvious as to who you are.

Inflation is 9%, so your end of year joke of a raise won't keep pace. The extra $7200 helped buoy our low bases, as we always positioned total comp. In big cities, we never get external hires because they laugh at our entry level base salaries even with the $7200 car allowance. Losing it is a real sting, and we are no longer in line with expensive metros.

That has always been the policy is they deduct your office commute time for customer meetings. If you can have your status changed to work from home or at least hybrid then that could help you get reimbursed correctly for you mileage.

Yes your stipend has been eliminated, we get it. Ask any employee of any company how the mileage reimbursement works and you will gett the same response. You must first deduct your commute miles between your home and the office. Then you can start your legitimate mileage deduction for work related travel. Feel good you received the stipend for as long as you did, it's dead and it ain't never coming back.

OP Here. What some don't realize is that we spend A LOT of time driving to and from customer appointments each week.

It's not so much the travel time to the office that's the point here, it's that if I put 60 miles a day on my car, using my gas, and putting wear on my vehicle to perform a job for Verizon it's now coming directly out of my pocket.

Are there some reps that don't travel much? Sure, but I'm not one of those as I spend 3 days per week out in the field meeting with customers and prospecting for new business.

ATT has greatly reduced their B2B teams over the years to specific accounts and territories. They have used partners and virtual to manage basically everything else. VZ will soon be following those steps. Just look how many partners and various versions of Indirect are there. It will continue to grow. The days of door knocking and prospecting face to face are dead. They even have door to door agencies in both consumer and business. Why pay someone all the benefits, car allowance, salaries, quota, to door knock and get one GA phone or worse a single One Talk for 25.00 per month. Some agents work commission only. So B2B basically had a free car allowance for almost 3 years.

Makes complete sense really. Just like when I drive to the airport for work travel (not that I do any of that any more), I had to deduct the mileage I would normally drive to and from the office (not that I do any of that any more either). It's completely logical.

So you want a reimbursement of travel mileage that is less than the your commute? In other words, you want Verizon (aka the rest of us) to subsidize your choice to live 26 miles away from work when may of us suck it in and pay the higher realty prices to live closer. What entitlement.

The people saying negative comments like “use your own car” don’t understand that previously B2B reps did not get reimbursed for mileage, we had a set allowance which is now removed. Now we can deduct mileage, but the office locations are far away, in example 60 miles away so you can’t deduct miles traveling to customer appointments unless you exceed 60 miles…. There is no company car and it’s only your personal vehicle that you are required to use to visit customers…

I don't think this is a change. The policy has always clearly stated that you must first subtract your commute miles to your office before you start your mileage credit.

I'm not even sure this is legal. I realize that Han's has committed to a $5B cost reduction within a year, but this is ridiculous! How much savings is there in changing this process? This is just another example of Verizon being "chinzie", and it's just so Jane's can get an enhanced bonus.

So they took the $2500 sign on bonus, subtracted the recurring car allowance of $6500 a year, tacked on an extra $1000 and wow $10K flashy sign on bonus! Poor hostages that will fall for this…

I signed a $10k signing bonus that had this car allowance in it. Now they are forcing a $7,500 pay cut, but if I leave I have to pay back $10k. This is absolutely ridiculous.

That stinks but in all fairness 95% of reps lie about the meetings they go on anyway so whatever. Beric Badafora started the 10 meetings a week thing which forced reps into lying and created this huge fake culture around “going on meetings” with customers. That guy was the absolute worst for 1000 reasons, did nothing for the business. “Good riddance Felicia.”

I wouldn't mind the change if it weren't for the commute deduction. Paid per mile would be fine except the fine print basically makes it impossible to actually get "reimbursed" for any mileage.
