Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Another Diversity "leader" says adios....

Personally I'd rather be a sewer worker in Shanghai.

His departure has nothing to do with orientation or budget and everything to do with the fact that this person was granted an enormous amount of power, while lacking maturity and professionalism. HR leadership should be held accountable because they allowed and enabled this behavior. They ignored the inappropriate behavior because he was the perfect figure head for DEI and could perform.

@1jeb i find that hard to believe. nike budgets are huge, you are trying to say one persons initiatives impacted PSP more than any other fluff nike spent? cmon. this announcement reeks of egregious interpersonal behavior of some sort.

@1jeb+1jELImRv

So he left because his budget wasn’t approved?

nada to do with life choice or dress or hair and more to do with making our psp go down with spending habit

Super interested myself. The only possibly related piece that I've heard is him posting a "coming out" message with pics in heavy makeup recently. It's not new news but maybe...related? I mean I guess nobody judges anybody coming out and looking like a different person, unless its a $50B company's CXO...

Very curious about the history of JS' inappropriate behavior and scandals. If it was as bad as others are alluding to, how were they promoted up the ranks?

If his behavior was so bad that he got fired, then didn’t he ruin his own career? Why is HR leadership blamed for ruining his career?

There are more than a few scandals around JS. Not only was he allowed to do and act in whatever way he wanted, but he was championed by leadership and Paula. Its on those leaders who failed to act when many flags were raised about his behavior (in and out of the office), the expense reports he submitted (or tried to) and his overall entitlement veiled by gaslighting his peers. There were several Nike employees who were fired, deliberately part of a RIF or also gaslighted by HR Leadership because of reporting JS and his actions. As the poster said above, there is no consequence for Nike HR Leaders in this just ruined careers of Nike HR employees and JS himself.

I have been processing this news since the email came out last night. So many emotions. Embarrassed for Nike, sad for this person and frustrated it took so long to act. Did we learn nothing from 2018?

Sad for this person because they were given far too much power and allowed to continually behave inappropriately. This individual is so talented, and highly intelligent, but lacks the maturity to know how to behave. Why would they act any differently though? They were given an incredible amount of power and were protected at the highest levels. HR leaders should be ashamed. You ruined this person's career and embarrassed Nike because you allowed this behavior to continue. Finally, something bad enough must have happened that you could no longer protect this person, so out they go while you all get to continue on without consequence.

Curious about what will come from this. There are so many people over the past 3 years who raised concerns but then found themselves in the out crowd once they did. Many lost their jobs.

Did he resign for another opportunity or was he “let go”?

That’s because DEI is just racism veiled as social justice.

I do not know anything specific but I will say I've seen more than a few workers at Nike that were promoted too far too fast and then ended up in over their heads as they lacked the experience to tackle all the politics and complexities of a VP or CXO level role at the company. The person in question went from Sr. director to a CXO role in 3 years. That's pretty much unheard of.

Huh … just promoted to the chief diversity officer and is abruptly leaving. Must be a scandal somewhere in there?
