The issue isn’t necessarily about individuals but Nike consistently protecting and sometimes even promoting leaders who behavior is the antithesis of everything it promotes. They do this by telling people to remain silent and threatening action if you do not. “Keeping your head down and focusing on pushing up PSP” is hard to do if HR/ER is protecting your boss who is a predator. I know because it happened to me and several others I know. And every single victim was threatened and intimidated by HR leadership. HR should be ashamed of themselves and I for one am glad to see them called out so publicly.

Enough. Stop with your anonymous witch hunt. If you're a victim? Report it. If you're a witness? Report it. As a survivor, the best thing you can do is talk to a professional. It saved my life. Go break plates, work out, or whatever, but stop this online bullying. The more you light fire to this, it feeds the fire within you and it will only grow (unhealthy for you). Take a three day pledge to not talk about it to anyone, and then evaluate. If you still feel there is still something wrong? Then report it or talk with someone that can do that on your behalf. Take a breather, and think about this, how would you feel if these posts were about you or your kid or family member? Guilty or not. This is cyber-bullying. Please be kind, even if you're in pain. Rise above.

@beaw I am sorry if I hit a nerve there, let me clarify. My comment was directed towards those comments that started a crusade on the potential other party/victim and not JS. The comments started to get really unnecessary a) naming him while remaining anonymous themselves b) claiming he was involved for salacious reasons etc etc. My comments were not about reports against the already exited leader. The comment on reporting was solely if there was a true concern not based on internet gossip on this 3rd parties involvement (not JS), report it (not even saying to Speak Up, other places too) vs naming him on the internet because from the feel of those comments it was all speculation and it felt spiteful and was becoming a bit hate filled. I’m not in HR, so I cannot speak to it all but I understand that must be frustrating to have things feel swept. I was watching the thread and became embarrassed for how easy it was to put someone’s name, like this 3rd party, on the internet based on presumed fact. Hoping that helps.

I have been watching this thread for over a week and stayed silent. @bmbk comments set me off. There are many people who have spoken up over the past 3 years, yet JS kept getting promoted.

For anyone who has been following this thread, it is amazing to see the number of comments that have been removed. Agree the comments naming the victim were both sad and disgusting and needed to be removed, but other posts were on point with calling out those who enabled and celebrated this man.

Beyond the current allegations, so many people have been hurt by this egomaniac and those who wanted to ride on his success train. Many spoke up and were retaliated against. Nike HR is sneaky though and they use their tools to remove people. Concerns started surfacing in 2019. One by one people who spoke up were exited.. fired, laid off, or made to feel forced to quit because they were in the out crowd.

As someone who has been personally hurt by this man and his fan club, I just hope the truth comes out and MM, BB, PR suffers the consequences for enabling this person.

You can mandate all the training you want, and have the prettiest powerpoints in the biz… but anyone that has spent more than 2 quarters with the company knows HR exists solely to squash scandals.

Yes, I’m glad those comments got trashed. I’m embarrassed for Nike HR employees coming on here and posting gossip as fact. Unless you truly know and were there in the room, you should not in any way be posting trash gossip you “think” you know online with people’s names attached. The gossip train at Nike is strong, because you heard it from someone who heard it from someone and you post it online doesn’t make it fact. Speculate all you want, but those comments are on here putting many people’s name to unconfirmed gossip and if something really did happen you have no idea what kind of damage/trauma you’re doing to people that may/may not have been involved to spread this online.

When the final story comes out, I’m sure we will all get wind of it, until then let’s all get back to work and drive our PSP up instead of spending work hours posting trash under the protection of anonymity on online gossip sites that you believe is fact. If you had real concerns, report them back spread it online. (and bc I know this will come up, I’m someone truly not involved or even closely aligned to this, just a fellow employee who read this and was embarrassed for the immaturity).

Let’s level ourselves up.

The morale of the story here seems to be that it’s a bad idea to hire and promote people based on how many diversity boxes they check. None of the individuals listed here had the professional maturity or experience to be at the VP or S band level, yet they got there due to the LT’s woke virtue signaling. The head of HR also checks at least two diversity boxes as well, so she won’t be going anywhere despite running the most disfunctional department at Nike.

@trustnoone - JS please stop. The 15 minutes of fame at Nike are over. The reality is you won fan fare from junior level staff by throwing your budget/dollars at them for flashy events (only to elevate your personal brand). Your decisions were bias and your leadership was rooted in favoritism. Your days of manipulating others are over. The company was in shock when Bowerman passed away - let’s not confuse gleeful excitement and cheers of “it’s about time” with sadness and shock. I don’t know if JS is trustnone but he’s right about those “independent”, third-party investigations used to push people out (allegedly).

Coordinated by EE (essentially HR but with lipstick) and conducted by a law firm Nike keeps on retainer.

You have no idea what the complaint actually is until after they’ve interviewed a wide cross-section of colleagues. You get interviewed towards the end.

  • Legitimate complaint and an evidence trail proving you’re a liability? Fired immediately.
  • Legit but the evidence is weak and you’re in with someone high up? It gets buried. Everyone fall in line or else. The accuser eventually leaves on their own because their career isn’t going anywhere
  • Survive because it’s without merit? You’re marked too no matter how many people speak well of you to investigators

If you get cleared, it doesn’t get communicated out because who wants to admit it was a big waste of everyone’s time and money? You’re dead in the water too so you leave or they’ll trip you up with something else.

That’s the game folks.

Guessing @TrustNoone is JS himself. For the #1 point made on claims being unsubstantiated, of course they were, JS was protected. As mentioned in #4 he was a master at relationship building and was strategic with who surrounded him. He is tight with BB and very close to the VP in legal who oversees employee relations.

I’m apart of the HR org and wanted to add facts to this chat.
#1 yes there were investigations on JS throughout his tenure, but they were all bogus and didn’t have merit
#2 It’s a well known fact that JS had a special relationship with someone on his team that was reported multiple times regarding bias for in/out group. This person knew everything about everybody and always bragged about having the tea. They had loose lips.
#3 JS was a wild boy that liked to have fun, like 90% of Leaders at Nike, he’s no different
#4 JS was a master of building relationships, which was his superpower
#5 The HR org knows what really happen and pi---d at the outcome due to the embarrassment to Nike & DEI
#6 There is someone who was EXTREMELY close to JS that is wrapped up in his exit. There are bets that this person will take a leave of absence or leave the company. How can you take down a giant and go unscathed?

Only time will tell…stay tuned

@5ooy you are right. "left to pursue personal interests…” signals an unplanned exit. This is the code for being shown the door. I am just sitting back waiting to see who else tumbles alongside him. I hope some of the people who protected him are outed. The head of talent acquisition should be the first to go. She knew about the bad behavior early on but covered for him. He was a rising star and she could benefit from his presence since she has zero to offer on her own.

I don’t know how people are sticking up for this man. He was scandal-ridden, rude af, elitist and much more. I guess if you only interacted with him on zoom, you wouldn’t know that but anyone who has spent an ounce of time with him knows that.

JS abrupt exit announcement and sudden departure literally shocked the entire company. Everyone has been in mourning and disbelief. Regardless of what everyone has said, his impact was undeniable. The sad part is that he was so young and accomplished so much that threatened many. This is giving a classic tale of the rise and fall that is dealt with a tragic ending. As I read all of the comments, I’m shocked at how personal they are with references of expense reports and investigations which only a very few people would know and have access too. If I did the math, this seems like an interpersonal situation with someone who was really close to him. I wouldn’t be surprised if the truth came out soon because so many people want answers and will not stop digging.

@4uor it's not hearsay. First-hand accounts of bad behavior while traveling for work. Partying and showing up late for events or not showing up at all. Direct team members would cover and conceal because they benefited from their connection. It is also well known that he is closely connected with senior HR leaders who protected him. This is why this went on for as long as it did.

When will HR be held accountable and investigated? Very long time coming and over due. Disgusting what they’ve been able to get away with to include se-ual harassment. Some perpetrators are still here, just moved under other leaders to hide it. Let’s not forget that HR hides “new” VPs under their umbrella until the old VP is let go.
