Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

VTP inevitable

One big reason not talked about here why the company will likely offer T workers the VTP on 12/15/22 and/or on 3/15/23 is for a strategic and quick change with its employee diversity numbers using caps so that specific numbers of certain people will leave the payroll of each org 30 days later. These targeted people are the highest seniority workers whom, because of long past hiring practices, are mostly white folks. There are reasons discussed here on why the company will not logically offer VTP however this and another important point debunk those arguments: that once employees are "off the payroll" 30 days later, they are off that org's budget. The termination pay, up to two years, comes from another bucket of money, not the org's money. The org literally only cares about the org's costs so this builds in an incentive for an org to use VTP as a tool to shed older higher cost workers. As more work continues to become automated and/or moved to lower cost workers, either from T to Orange, or to vendors/partners on or off shore, old T workers should prepare to soon receive a VTP offer. And this cannot come soon enough for many of us.

I'm entitled to 104 weeks of severance pay per my contract, but would undoubtedly take a mere $100k to just walk away just to get away from so much uncertainty! Bring it on, I'm ready!

You won’t be getting anything that isn’t already contractually obligated. Just shop with the nonsense

VTP comes from the Pension fund.

VTP payout is based on Seniority. There is a lessor amount offer they can make Leg-T that was 35K. Only seen it offered once.

One big reason not talked about here why the company will likely offer T workers the VTP ...

... is because the likelihood of a VTP in anything other than minuscule numbers is near a zero chance.

Bring it on...but it’s only wishful thinking! Stop trying to manipulate people’s emotions here! You will only get your 6 months severance if impacted, that’s all! Nobody will be incentivized to leave ATT. Those days are ancient history ever since SBC bought T. ATT was more generous with offers back in the day, but that’s all in the past.

Each contract is different. We don’t have anything like that in the southwest. It doesn’t matter if your org doesn’t pay it. Executives don’t want to pay anymore.

Everyone stop with the diversity BS I have 10 years of my life from crawling under houses and in attics to different roles and I was the first one hit by layoffs in 2019 while they kept lazy cheating natives and by the way it’s greedy CEOs and CFOs that look like you who are outsourcing your jobs overseas no one came here to steal anything from you, the more they save the bigger bonuses they make.

As I explained, the org doesn't pay the VTP costs. An employee who accepts a VTP is off the org's payroll in 30 days. The org benefits from offering VTP because they cut costs via reduced headcount while also increasing % numbers of non-white employees - since the majority of the highest seniority employees are white, and VTP ultimately goes by seniority, thus it reduces the % of white employees, which is a valuable goal of the company understandably.

Termination pay up to two years as mentioned, is for workers with over 30 years, and this is in our labor contract. Workers with less years receive fewer months of pay of course but it's still very good.

You wrote the company is not going to spend more than six months severance however they do, per contract. For example, the company just gave twelve teleconference operators the VTP a couple months ago in Minneapolis.

More VTP offers are likely to come as well as the unfortunately ITP.
