Then don’t go to a tech company. I’m in a tech role and work at a major retailer and we aren’t doing layoffs. We are booming.

But you should leave if you have any urge to. Trust me, the grass IS greener elsewhere.

Mental health is priceless. I have heard from multiple people that left that they’re more confident and happier now that they’re in workplaces that recognize their good work.
Don’t stay if you don’t like who you’re becoming because of this company!

Total Woosh over the OP’s head on this one. They’re foolish to think that there won’t be excellent exit options from big tech, typically better than low performers at EM which I am confident they are.

Don’t worry, few of you will ever have to worry about being let go by any tech company - because you likely lack the skills to get hired by one to begin with.

The tech work force also skews younger and (gasp!) more liberal. This is bound to be a problem for the typical Exxon employee. Scroll through the threads on this board if you don’t see why that is.

There’s open seating in most offices. The response of Exxon employees to that has been…mixed. If you don’t like it at Exxon, you won’t like it at Amazon or anywhere else.

So yes, stay put. Maybe put your minds to developing carbon capture technologies.

You realize there use to be close to 90k employees world-wide right? We are closer to 50k now and we continue with this annual 5-10% reduction nonsense. Do the math bruh...it isn't that different.

But if you look at who the lay-offs effect - it's pretty limited. Its HR, Retail, IOT device groups (which is a dying space anyways).

Don’t forget that we are actively looking to PIP and make higher county employees so unhappy that they quit AT LEAST at a 9% attrition.

At least tech is open about it and pays a severance.

For those that jumped to the tech sector, all that "big" pay...is now underwater, because stock option value has plummetted. Plus, pay raises will be below inflation

Maybe if your skills are in tech. Still a good job market elsewhere. I have several interviews lined up and my former colleague from XOM recently landed a new job.
