Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

DorkWood Quote

Just saw this - Hey DW nice job trying to show Wall Street you care. We all know you don't by how you've treated us over the last two years.

“Our people are my greatest source of pride. In incredible and tense situations, our people rise to the challenge and handle themselves very professionally and execute their work very effectively, time and time again. With the results that we have delivered, the projects that we put in place, the changes that we have managed — our people are very impressive.”

Statements like that from him after the last 30 months are insulting. He has no integrity.

@rjj You aren't as good as you think you are.

Only logical explanation is that DW had both his hands behind his back when he made those lovely statements.

My only issue is that his fingers were crossed on one hand (signifying the opposite of what was being said) and giving the 1 finger salute (flipping the birdie) with the other hand.

I laughed out loud when he said it was the toughest decision because "I knew these people all my life" or something BS like that.... And the dramatic closeup.... please, Bollywood drama, fake, tasteless

The “bitterness” comes from being in the top 10% for the first 15 years of my career and never even knowing there was something called a HiPo.<

This was my case. The last 15 years of my O&G (upstream) career I worked for EM and then retired. I worked offshore 28/28 so I did not see a lot of office time. But still, I had no idea there was such a thing as a HiPo. What a dunce I was.

I only found out later by reading these boards. Things now make more since to me. I feel like I was cut out of a possible fuller career having to complete with wormy HiPo’s.

Oh well, nothing a can do about it know. I’ll go back glass of wine and ‘Marry Jane’. Ha!

Peace.

Trolling. DW is now trolling the employee base with his messaging.

There must have been a public image survey done on DW. I can't think of any other reason why the corporation is now trying to spin him as someone who cares.

They have to boost his image and put a more human face on him.

@fcn+1jI5Cynm The “high performing individuals” I know were tapped so early in their careers, and many - given time - couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag. Yet, they’re in this position of authority to tap other HiPos. People who from my experience, do a great job looking busy and kissing a-s - but don’t actually get anything of tangible value DONE.

The “bitterness” comes from being in the top 10% for the first 15 years of my career and never even knowing there was something called a HiPo. There is no transparency - no clear path to advancement - and if you have the misfortune of being under the supervision (and ranking) of a “retired in place” or less than competent manager ADVOCATING for you, your career is hosed. But they’ll blow sunshine and have you believe that if you keep churning away, or tweak this to the left - this to the right - it’ll make a difference. (Spoiler alert: it doesn’t make a difference. If your not tapped early in your career, you’re on a slow ride to the bottom!)

Getting ahead at ExxonMobil is not a function of being the best and brightest, it’s a function of who you work for - who in that sphere of influence recognizes your achievements and capabilities - and quite frankly, that all comes down to luck.

With two managers I was at the TOP of the herd. With two others, I was at the BOTTOM. I haven’t changed, the people managing me have. As I read through all these posts, it’s abundantly clear I’m not the (only!) one Needing Significant Improvement:

ExxonMobil is!

AH, REDEMPTION!!!! 💡

I really do not understand why you are so bitter and angry. Exxon provides meaningful work, ample of opportunities for high performing individuals and very competitive benefits and pay. What else are you looking for?

I agree, I find it tasteless and tone deaf. I sometimes wonder if he's not making a joke in very bad taste.

Yep. It was disgusting. WTF is going on in his mind or going on in general? This whole picture isn't right. Attrition among the people with boots on the ground near the wellheads is way too high and morale is way too low. What is the end game? WTF??

Must be great from his vantage point, probably like watching
The Hunger Games. Each rank cycle, senior managers are thinking, “May the odds be ever in their favor…”

Modern day gladiators, slaying their peers - the antithesis of a healthy work environment.
