My boss obviously favors a person who is nothing but a lazy mediocrity, thus giving the rest of us the impression that our hard work and knowledge are completely unappreciated.
I don't have a good answer for this, but lately it's been pushing me to switch jobs. Maybe someone has a good advice on how to handle rampant favoritism at EM.

Take a very close look at the lips of the favored and then ask yourself if you're willing to go that far.
In Baton Rouge we have a manager that picks a few folks to favor and it’s usually the bootllickers that suck up to her so she can get the rush of being drunk on power. She keeps them well ranked so she can tell upper management she is inclusive and wonderful. Just ask them

I have seen bosses genuinely favor other people and I have seen bosses commanded from above to favor certain chosen people.
Both cases can lead to very capable persons being PIP’d and the favored person advancing higher.
Get moved to another group.
There is no hope. No matter how hard you work, kiss bu-t or try you cannot succeed. I have seen this for years and it drives people away. It makes me sick to see the supervisors talk so nice to the favorites while they ignore the hard workers. They do even try to hide the blatant preferential treatment. I asked a supervisor why they did this and they denied the unfair treatment. They defended the lazy favorite by saying they were a wonderful worker.
Get transfer to another business or role if you can, assuming no recourse. Favoritism leads to mediocrity and poor outcomes. Let them deal with the consequences. You don’t want to compromise your integrity to play the game.
Try to transfer and get of her grasps.
The only useful advice I have is to try and become one of those favorites, otherwise like it was mentioned in another thread, it’s a long race to the bottom.
