Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

5 day connect weeks?

I know Abby said something about upping the connect week requirement to 5 days (from 3) starting next year. Why hasn't the company addressed this in any other communications or updated the policy page? This is a non-trivial change and people will need time to adjust their plans, especially considering how many people will be taking vacation in December and may miss a last minute "gotcha" email.

There was actually more flexibility 3 years ago.

It's great for people who just talk to be there. My teams productivity and happiness has been great since we went all remote. Even before COVID we were 50-60% remote. But, leaders who like to see their minions are feeling lonely and useless. Thankfully my manager was nevert like that. And his group delivers for him in return.
What the past 2 years have shown is that remote is best for heads down work. Once in a while I suppose meeting in person is great. But that should be left to the individual teams to decide.

The policy is coming directly from Abby. The other leaders are falling in line because of her. But the true believer that dragging everyone back to the office is essential for Fidelity’s “culture” is ALL Abby. The rest play the game of saying whatever gets you that bonus and we all play that game too. They won’t pull back the policy unless the talent war sees W4H as a new battlefront

The architect of this tone deaf policy is the person whose name is right after Abby in that email. That is the person who refuses to hear what survey says..that is the person who is dragging the firm back. And that is the person Abby trusts because she doesn't know any better.
We will continue to have regressive policies because some voices up top are too loud and the others are too scared of loosing their grip on the teats to do anything about it.
Stay strong people...

Being facetious? We have spoken over and over and they don’t listen on surveys. They always say we heard you, you find value in being in the office. But we will continue to speak our minds. The rules keep getting stricter and stricter around things in addition to days increasing and there is no parity between teams and business units.

Because it just came out today even though everyone already heard it from credible sources. It will get updated.

“ It will include a note that business leaders/managers are encouraged to consider requiring teams to be in the office additional days on top of the company required one day per month.”

More than the one week…it didn’t say that. But clearly managers are already doing whatever the he-l they want.

The email formally announcing the change to 5 consecutive days every 4 weeks will be coming out this afternoon. It will include a note that business leaders/managers are encouraged to consider requiring teams to be in the office additional days on top of the company required one day per month. Onetime exemptions may be considered for exceptional circumstances but they will be the exception.
