Heard from someone who would know. For locations with space or pending space issues.
Badge swipes will dictate who gets to keep their desk or cubicle. Probably more of a worker bee thing, but if you haven't been doing the 3 days or required days RTO according to your area, you might wind up giving up your desk or cubicle permanently.

This sounds like a troll. I work in an alleged hub city and the offices look like a ghost town.
Finish all sentences like that with "for now", because believe me, unless you're a NYC executive they are coming for "your" desk eventually.
Gave it up when they closed our building.
some groups and buildings still have assigned seating. it is very location and team specific. I have a mix on my team. pre COVID/rto when they started moving to flex seating we were given a certain number of assigned cubes and they would run regular reports, anyone who wasn't averaging in office 4 days per week over a period of time lost their assigned cube
While most don't have designated desks, my department does.

You don't have a desk anymore, OP. That's the new "system". I can tell that the current execs never had a "real job" based on their belief that what they are doing creates collaboration. The complete elimination of an employee having a "place" of their own and the (often necessary) geographic distribution of teams means that there's usually not anyone in your group to collaborate with face to face at your assigned location. So, we all just collaborate virtually...which we could also do from home.
This happened 5-6 years ago when WF was pushing WFH.
I happily forfeit my desk to whoever wants to work in the yellowing vermin infested office I have the pleasure of spending my time in.
