Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

LAYOFF BASED ON WHAT? PLS HELP

Cisco is to layoff people.
What would they consider?
Grade? Performance? or the list is sent by upper management?

First, welcome to both your first day at Cisco and your first day here! Isn’t it exciting?

If you are young, cheap, well connected, and work on a shiny project at a major site like SJC the odds are in your favor. It was common for Cisco to layoff whole teams to shutting down entire business unit operations at remote sites and if you were old enough in the US they had to give you summary data on people laid off by age - when the old people showed it around it was mostly old people. From what I heard in one round many years ago if you were above grade 11 you couldn’t transfer internally.

Realize layoffs have been a thing (at least in the US) for nearly 40 years. Always keep your skills up and keep building a network of connections. Most places give poor average raises and for most job jumping will both broaden your skills and seriously increase your income over time so after a few years at a place you should already be actively exploring new options and be ready to capitalize on the next opportunity. It’s almost always easier to jump while you still have a job.

historically a director is told how many have to go, they assign a number to a manager and the manager typically picked based on personality and who they liked - highest to goal often were selected (mgr didn't like as much as others) which was great for them financially since they have to readjust goal to termination date. In 2020 some folks booked their goal the first month and Cisco had a cow when their readjusted attainment was will over 300% - they eventually got their money and fantastic new jobs.

I am a Sr. leader in Collab Marketing and Aruna did not ask for a list? She claims she does not know what is going on??? Is she clueless or on the dishonesty club? My bet is dishonest. So over her too!

Layoffs are by relationships. Leadership aligns employees they like to projects with funding in 2023... and aligns employees they dislike to non-funded deliverables
