Thread regarding Optum layoffs

It’ll happen when you least expect it

Laid off from the Quality department after working with the company for 35 years just for my position to be available to the offshore team at a lower salary grade. Worked my bu-t off to audit claims through endless meetings in order to meet production goals and in the end it didn’t even matter. No severance. 35 years of loyalty to UHG/Optum and this is how it ends. Sigh.

Why no severance after 35 year?

I had worked there for > 15 years. Received rave reviews, exceeded expectations in all categories on annual reviews, mentored new nurses, and completed all assignments. Micromanagement became extreme, atmosphere became toxic, and revolving door of resignations spun faster. Age discrimination was very apparent. Even when I thought that things couldn't get worse, they did. I quit and it was one of the best decisions of my life.

Sorry to hear this. They did the same thing to me. The who corporation in its entirety is a sh*t show. One day having all the offshore incompetence will catch up to the quality of results and will affect the corporation and many like them doing this just like it did in US banking and finance. Then they will realize what losers they really all are.

Did you receive your WARN notice and the associated 60 days pay required by the Federal WARN Act (and the WARN in many states)?

the failed us empire has a thing called" employment at whim/will doctrine"--it only exists in the us empire. you have very few if any real employment rights-thanks to capitalism and those oligarchs/your owners. hence, a debt/tax slave can be fired for no reason, any reason, anytime, any where. nothing changes, that's the propaganda "exceptional" nonsense

I am very sorry to hear this. I worked there almost 20 years and saw the changes coming. I am sure you put your heart and soul in the work like I did. Know that you are valuable despite how they treated you! You do get 10 EAP visits up to 3 years if you need them. Please take good care.

How can they not give you severance? What was their reason behind that? Absolutely disgusting.

Did they give you any warning that you were going to be laid off or just did it the day of? Best of luck to you—there’s definitely better out there for you.
