They’ve been saying for years the layoffs aren’t because we’re doing badly, but just to shift to growing parts of the business. So why do we do it every year, for years? Was the ELTs predictions wrong so they need to try something else’s very what? Or is just an excuse?

The Talent Movement Initiative was only on paper, there was no serious effort.

Duplicitous waste. Fancy word there, plus one point.

The Talent Movement initiative is a farce.

Cap. And the rest of your reply is spot on as well. I think there's a quiet, or unspoken, push for managers to not hire out-going employees into new roles in order to hire new, younger, less expensive employees. Even if that means that there's a talent drain and a lot of corporate knowledge going out the door. I've watched how the new hires take a year before they fully understand how to get things done w/ all the Cisco red-tape and bureaucracy while good folks leave who knew how things worked.

I left as a red badge due to a "budget shortfall" and joined a different team a couple of months later. After about 2 yrs, some IT guy contacts me and tells me I'm the POC for some server and asks me if I want to refresh it or decommission it and I tell him I have no idea because that server belonged to my old team. Turns out, no one left even knew what that server did, so they let it get decommissioned and, oops, it had some critical back-end automation running on it that they'd forgotten about and I didn't know if it was still needed as I was no longer part of that team and had no idea how their work flows may had changed over the intervening years. I laughed my a$$ off when someone contacted me to ask why XYZ process suddenly stopped working after they made that decision to decommission that server.

Sometimes that experience is worth the additional cost in wages.

The Talent Movement initiative is a farce. You can look at new areas but the pay scale is basically entry level so anyone with experience that has rewarded them with Grade 11 or higher pay will already be priced too high for the roles that are posted.

This is 100% about cost reduction if you are thinking that this is about growing the company - you are a fool. The LR announcement was very predictable. After all, this is why you have an employee number….

As a leader we we told not to travel to see customers, no team get togethers (unless they were free) for the last two months of Q1. When you question a decision on a leadership call you are called out for not being a good leader. Our ELT only wants sheep to follow them, nod politely, and tell them how wonderful they are.

I love this company but some days they make me throw up in my mouth…

Guys, it’s just business. There are heaps of deadwood in the BEs to get rid of not to mention all the duplicitous waste in CX.

@oyj+1jKsZ4Iq no. Chuck and Scott recently said no more layoffs. They will shift people into different roles instead. Because Scott rightly realized no one good what’s to work somewhere with constant layoffs.

At least at Facebook Zuckerberg said "I view layoffs as a last resort". At Cisco it is standard operating procedure. Layoffs are how Fran gets her kicks.

Twitter is a different story. Musk is a bully and much worse than Chuck.

He didn't say no layoffs. He said headcount numbers, in total, would not decrease over the year.

He said no layoffs in “this financial year” during an FY22 meeting. Pay attention.
