Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is HR biased against internal hires for tech

It seems like their focus is on external recruitment. I’ve heard the only way you can really move up in Wells is if you leave and come back. Otherwise they just anchor you to your current role regardless of your skills. You won’t be able to make a significant internal move. Anyone from HR on here? Confirm?

Its not so much HR, it the hiring manager only looking for previous JPM employees to pick up.

There's always been a certain degree of discrimination against internal candidates, but Shart cranked it up to 11.

It seems like they are looking for any little thing to not hire you. That means the hiring manager is not confident that he or she understands the role. If they knew the role then they would look for the 80/20 role fit.

@jgf I know I’m old enough to know indoctrination when I see it. When you’ve lived as long as I have lived, you’ll know what I’m saying. Along the same topic, I used to get a chuckle when the old people used to talk about these being the end of days. What I actually determined, is that it’s not the end of days, but end of the days as they once knew it. DE&I is just a fad. Next, your guess is as good as mine.

@ibh don't hate because you're too old to culturally diverse. Not everyone is cut out for the speed at which life moves.

Also biased against you if you don't check any boxes for diversity dimensions.

@gap Thanks for the big words. Woo hoo! Emotional intelligence. Last I checked, Siri and Alexa didn’t work so well with Ebonics and engrish…

Here’s a big word right back atcha, “enunciate”. Google it. I’m sure it’s new to you

@ajc sounds like you need hearing aids and emotional intelligence.

Maybe move to a blue state you get used to hearing more than re----k dialect.

@kmk So, You are saying I’m ignorant, meaning I’m uneducated and unaware? Well, I am educated, and I am aware, but if there is a communication problem within the company between individuals, what is the solution? I don’t speak Hindi. I don’t speak Ebonics. I don’t speak, no offense, Engrish.
I didn’t realize that part of my job requirement was to immerse myself by watching the BET channel, Indian channel, Or the AZN channel.

@yhc. As a disabled person, I am happy that WF allows me to WFH if I jump through their hoops to prove that a permanent condition hasn’t changed as if they don’t know the definition of the term.

What I do not care for is that I am pretty much stuck where I am because I am remote, despite the fact I have been a high performer on two teams now.

Not just speculation but I know for certain.

Is it too much to ask to be able to work with individuals who speak my own native language without a strong accent? Does it make me an intolerant person when I have to keep asking somebody to repeat something they said because I can’t understand certain words being pronounced differently than what I’m used to hearing? Does it make me an intolerant person when I ask those individuals to send me a follow-up email with what was discussed so that I don’t miss understand what they said? Yes, I do realize that even here in America people speak differently, depending upon the states they’re from.
What’s sad, is that when technology responds to one of my trouble tickets, I don’t even get a phone call. They insist on doing it remotely and using Skype.

This has always been true of Wells Fargo -- and it wasn't limited to tech. It's still true for those who have RTO, but doubly so for those of us who are remote. They've basically hung us out to dry, discriminating against us no differently than if we were a different race, gender, religion, or se-ual orientation.

The fact that this hasn't been flagged by regulators is astounding.

Yes. Why else offer the 10k bonus for referring external hires?

They do not even bother to have interview and decline after two months of waiting. They are looking for a specialist in a specific field, and I am a certified expert in this field. Furthermore, they reply that you do not fit. Then publish vacancy again. Don't bother to even apply.

However, I am getting HRs internal hiring emails every month. Such a joke.

Yes, leave and return has always been a popular way to move up in WF Tech. However, the way things are going there now, people leave and have no desire or reason to return.

The grass has, indeed, grown greener elsewhere. WF has become the brownfield of tech, no matter what leadership claims to be “innovation”.

I have an interview with another bank next week. If I get an offer I'll let you know.

My departure would create some serious capability issues for the team I'm part of and would make every remaining employee significantly more miserable. Don't see any path for my group to make a counteroffer, so I'd be walking out with a huge amount of WF-specific expertise as I've been here a while.
