I got surplussed. After 19 years with this company and I’m scared. Does anybody know how long it takes to get your severance pay after they remove you from payroll? Is it one pay period or much longer? I’m really freaking out.

Go out on benefits now. Sweat and act weak. The doctor will say you are having mental fatigue. Benefits will last month’s and the Union can put you in the job bank. Six months from now you will be offered another position.
You have enough time to visit your doctor and go out on stress. It delays it though the holidays!!!

No, I'm referring to the hit to their pension Lump Sum. Most Legacy T are affected and the absolute last day you can be on payroll is 11/30... otherwise you will miss the commencement date of 12/1.
Most will take a 30-40% hit off their lump sum.
Normally it doesn't take 45 days to get your severance. October 6th was my last day on payroll and I got my severance deposited in my bank account on November 4th, 29 days after separation.

Surplussed in July 2020, 18 months from rule of 75. Took about 3 months to get severance, and it was considerably less than you might imagine. I'd say take whatever lump sum you have and pay off any debt for starters, then take advantage of tax laws which may allow you to withdraw from 401k or IRA without the usual 10% IRS penalty. Give yourself some time to be angry and disappointed (it's natural and healthy), then get after it on finding another position. I was out of work for 8 months, am working as contract now looking for permanent.

SO MANY OF THESE QUESTIONS ARE FROM NON-AT&T EMPLOYEES. WHY? if you are impacted by surplus, all these questions and more are plainly and clearly answered. As an example:
I volunteered for the Surplus and was selected. In your notification, you can change the default off payroll date to 11/30, which I did. Instructions say you notify your HR BP. Also, in the Surplus documents, it sates "Can the severance payment be deferred?
Yes. You may elect to defer payment until the calendar year following the year your
termination occurs via the Surplus Transition Portal by selecting “Request to Defer Severance Allowance,” in the Surplus Employee Checklist. Where can an employee call to check on the severance payment? Call HR OneStop say “severance” at the prompt".

This company is pure evil. To give 12/1 as the "off payroll" date allows them to keep 30-40% of those that have pensions that will be impacted by the segment rate increase (mainly Legacy T).
For most Legacy T with pensions the last day on payroll has to be 11/30 in order to keep the rates of 2021.
Those in leadership that make these types of decisions that impact the livelihood of employees that have worked so hard to obtain, well, all I can say is that they will give an account on the day of judgement.
Nobody will get away with anything, all will get their due reward.

I am so sorry. I heard it takes 45 days. There is a link in your severance/separation notice that will bring you to the site that should answer this. You can also call into hr one stop. Definitely get this info verified. You have a right to ask your manager this in an email and ask to speak to your local Hr contact/HRBP. Best of luck to you.

I was also surplussed today after 22 years with the company. Off payroll date of 12/1/2022.
I was also surplussed today after 19 years. From the info that I read today it takes about 45 days after separation
