Does Wells Fargo have a policy regarding references? Are managers allowed to provide references for employees who were laid off?

My manager was a liar and scumbag so I asked someone who was my mentor, another long time co-worker who had worked with me on my scrum team and I asked my scrum master who was also leaving the company. Wells Fargo can't dictate who you use as a reference. Your manager might be scared to but others shouldn't be. F Wells Fargo!
Got to use WorkNumber. They provide your next employer with a code that. they need to access.
If its someone you like, ask them for a personal reference. Managers can do that if its sent via personal email. As a manager we are limited to say you work/worked for WF but nothing of detail. I sent out many references via personal email for people who worked hard.
Best thing to do, find someone who left the company and have them be your reference. There’s plenty to choose from. This is not just a wells thing. Other companies do this too. They do it so they are not caught in a jam giving a reference for some employees and not others. They are trying to avoid a lawsuit for interfering with future employment. Usually they just confirm dates employed and titles.

HR wouldn’t want them to, but they could if
- they’re confident enough in how much their own management likes them that they won’t get in trouble for something like that
- They think you were good
If either one of those two isn’t true, you won’t get your letter :(
But can we get a letter of recommendation if we ask. I heard managers are not even allowed to do that, which is so frustrating
That goes for every company that you'll work for. They are only allowed to provide dates and proof of your employment. They cannot say anything negative about the reason you are no longer there.
I have had companies calling my manager for a reference for a former employee, and am immediately told to direct them to H/R. The manager doesn't want to speak to them.
Correct. They can’t say anything more than that you worked there. The question you need to ask yourself, is, do you even want anyone to know that you worked at WF?
Wells only provides verification of employment, meaning title and dates. You won’t need to worry about them saying anything bad about you.
