This is how little the company cares about Annandale —- when I first started reading the layoff, I thought it was a reference to Frozen and that people were calling EMHC an ice palace. I’m still not confident if it really exists.

@1yy - R&D’s future is in computer modelling and managing projects contracted out to universities (novel chemicals and “climate” related research) and specialist companies (e.g. algae and carbon capture). There will be no need for labs and probably only 50-100 people max.

Contracting out R&D has been in the works for the last 25-30 years. EM is just acting on it now.

@Ex-Clinton the campus doesn't have space for labs. If actual lab work and science will continue, Clinton is needed. If everyone there just becomes a project manager for third parties and universities (which is the firection things are moving), then this might be possible. But no labs there makes it hard for researchers to do their job

It’s a no-brainer. Houston Campus has spare capacity. Clinton is under-utilised. The end of the R&D tax beaks will increase cost by 30-40%. The situation is unsustainable.

Many of the traditional CSR and Product Development programs won’t need to continue, due to industrial manufacturing stagnation in the manufacturing industry and vehicle OEM, moving away from internal combustion engines.

Expect the NSI category to increase in size at Clinton, for the company to “encourage” RE’s to leave sooner rather than later.

I would anticipate that it will be at least 2-3 years before ananadale closes, maybe as much as 5 years. The site is limping along with fewer and fewer people every day, but it seems unlikely that they'll just close up shop so rapidly.

Yes, moral is incredibly low here and the site feels dead, but i think we got a few years left

Dude, the closure of Annandale is a done deal and you know it. You should stop wasting your time writing here and look for a job pronto. You will be unemployed soon.

Pretty sure they are getting out of EM, then moving to another EM site
