Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

It happens to those who least expect it

What I learned from some of the previous cuts is that there were many who were surprised that they ended up on the cut list. Are there any subtle signs that someone might become a target?

Relationships are how you succeed in life. If you have none then move on

Indeed - it’s all about kisssing the right a$$ - if you’re unlucky and kiss the wrong one then both of you will find the door…..

Unfortunately good work and talent isn’t always appreciated nor awarded.

I saw the start of the list from this October. It was IPF and relationship based. A whole team of 12 was set to be scrapped except for one person who will be joining another project. I heard terms like management and growth potential as well as “coachability.” People who are also spending money or even just asking for stuff (expensive headsets and chairs) were put on the list.

I was an assistant during a large layoff, and organized the layoff excel sheet. The leadership in my org aligned employees based on relationships to projects with funding.

The people without relationships were quietly aligned to projects without funding. Therefore the official layoff justification is that layoffs are conducted by project business priority... but it's due to relationships
