Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATS All Hands 11/29

Got an invite late Friday down the Legg/Summers/VP branch for an “All Hands call on Tuesday for 30 mins. I’ve been part of several ‘you’re not affected’ calls over the years, but always wondering if the next one will get me. Cautiously optimistic though, since I am an employee and in a ‘hub’ location.
Sorry to everyone having to go through this stress again before the holidays.

The communications throughout ATS were delegated to director level so not everyone is having their call on the same day. The call is only to WARN your group 60 days in advance that your group will be impacted by layoffs. No further news is expected until mid January when the individuals who are actually being laid off will be notified directly. PS-There is a newer thread on this topic now.

any update….

Below someone confirmed the meeting was not in 11/29, it was last Tuesday.
It must have been uneventful because nothing was posted in this thread and no other topics about it were created on thAt day

Surplus calls always state that you should not share the email with anyone else, and, they usually come out at 4pm the day before the actual scheduled call. Good luck!

This thread is so depressing. I work as an SVP in HR for a 20 billion dollar corp (retail, manufacturing, and distribution) and our employees never worry about layoffs. Nothing since years before COVID and small when they did happen. I only came on here because an immediate family member was affected this past week and I was horrified by how it was handled. Run folks … this isn’t normal business. You deserve better.

OP again - same info as @1poc+1jOncJlZ posted below- notifications mid Jan, 2 weeks till off payroll. specifically said they are looking at about 500 ‘targeted’ employee positions in ATS, depending if enough ppl take retirement before EOY. No specifics on what the ‘target’ is, so could be anything- location, whole groups, etc. Implied that cuts would not necessarily be spread out evenly throughout the org, but would likely affect L1-L6 (whatever L6 is, since we don’t use titles anymore…)

Looks like you just need to read more!

"Any update from the call? "

The OP says the call is for 11/29. Reading and comprehension are evidently in low supply among some T-people

"Any update from the call?"

These calls are to appease the lawyers.

People are going to pass up the larger lump sum now thinking they can hang around a few more years, and some number of those will get laid off in January. They won't be happy about it.

800 will be a good start. There is a lot of fat to trim in some of the Legg organizations.

Wishful thinking brickhouser, everyone will get invited to hear the announcement that there will be layoffs in January. No one knows yet who specifically will be impacted. People will be told in mid January, and off payroll 2 weeks later.

I work in the Brickhaus organization. I didn't receive an email regarding a meeting for tomorrow (11/21) or 11/29. Perhaps only folks that are impacted are getting the meeting invite?

The total (800) is for entire Legg org. The number of 500 you may have heard assumes 300 will retire before 12/31.

I heard P. Fox (also in the Legg org) hosted one last week and (I think) he reported they will shed 500. Now that I hear this, I wonder if that 500 was just under Fox or if he was referring to the Legg org.

Sorry to spoil the surprise but it’s a layoff announcement, whoops I mean a workforce impact announcement. We had ours today, some folks I know in ATS had theirs last Friday, I know others who have it next Monday. Legg org needs to reduce by 800 employees. So 800 minus however many retire by 12/31, equals the number of impacted employees. Announcements will be in January, off payroll by 1/31/23.

T still lives in a utility mind set where they were the only player in town and nothing else mattered and it was easy to hire whenever they wanted and layoff whenever they needed!. Times have changed as well as the competition, but T management has been showing up late to the party for years! They're clueless on how to run a onetime virtual monopoly utility company like a major player on a highly competitive stage! T seriously needs to get its act together before it crosses the point of no return and finds itself in a very precarious position!

The timing sucks but this is what businesses are doing all over. Been a number of high profile announcements recently to show investors they are getting things in order for 1st quarter earnings calls.

Probably the official notification about the coming layoffs that are coming in February in order to satisfy the 60 day rule.

Unlikely it’s a surplus call. Surplus calls come with little notice, and frankly that’s by design.

If you have that much of an advance notice it’s not a surplus call most likely. Surplus calls are usually same day invites.

SBC/AT&T has done this for the past 20+ years in IT. Just about the only year I had no fear of being laid off, was last year. In fact, I was hoping to hear of some layoffs, but nope it was a very clean year in ATS.
Sadly, there was no layoff, but I fully planned on leaving and did.

It was one of the better choices I've ever made!

It's the MO for AT&T. Sh-t on employees right before the holidays and make it intense and make it hurt.
Instead, T has people fearful for their livelihoods at a time when employees should be looking forward to the holidays and celebrating worry-free with family and friends.

Literally T is the absolute worst run company in America right now.
