IDM 2.0 -- Intel Dies trying Manufacturing business (again)
Scrutinize current foundry effort hard. Most director and up are there for the wrong reasons
I would guess that he was all PowerPoint and appointing VPs but no foundry work?
Any internal news why Rand was fired?
It was amazing when you look at this guys background and think he could bootstrap the foundry.
AnZing the BOD and CEO appointed him and that he lasted that long, FUBAR
@uya+1jP9wnF1 they can't design chips worth anything either
IMHO, Intel intends to spin off IFS and then SELL it. There is no intention of keeping it. Intel wants be become a design only chip company. INTC has obviously demonstrated that they can't manufacture chips well.
IFS will never get off the ground until they fix their arrogant attitude towards customers.
Intel has tried fab outsourcing several times before. It has failed every time. The strategy is fraught with huge problems. Intel manufacturing cost structure, no ecosystem, no legacy process nodes, competition with internal products for wafer starts... these are just a few of the landmines. I have no doubt Intel can get a handful of large clients, but remember basic business strategy -- Intel has high fixed cost and a large customer has channel power so, they will get Intel to sell chips at very low (negative?) margin to fill the expensive fabs that have capacity due to losses in processor market share to AMD and upstarts like Ampere. You will see some wins here and there over next few years but don't be confused, watch how Intel does sector reporting for IFS. Look for clues how they do internal transfer costs for Intel parts. With a bit of work you can disentangle the financials and see what is hiding behind the curtain.
IFS is not dead but the current management structure might be @qib.
IFS is dead and this resignations confirms it!
If intel is hoping it will be the Tower CEO good luck.
Tower Intel merger will never get approved for the same reason as the CHIPS Act.

Already being reported. Head of Intel Foundry Services resigns just as chip biz gets going
comment bubble on black
Randhir Thakur led Intel’s big bet to take on Asian foundry giants TSMC and Samsung
Speculation is that Tower CEO will take over.

Rand fired.
Pick any ELT that has poor track record of execution, no industry experience, no technical degree and for added success add DEI checkbox.
Interesting departure, 🤔
Wonder who will be next to leave from ELT?
Probably Sandra or Nick..
