Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Safe people are being notified???

I wonder if it is true that some people were informed that their jobs were safe so that Cisco would prevent them from leaving. I don't trust my manager at all, so I wouldn't trust him if he told me I was safe.

They’re all reading from a script.

Since many managers and HR folks will be LR'd, it would be unwise to believe anyone that tells you that your are safe

A warning from history: when Cisco lays off whole groups they will sometimes try to force a few to stay under bad terms to transition the work to a different site. You don’t want to be useless or indispensable because both extremes end up being punished.

I think it is manager by manager. Our manager doesn't know if the team itself is safe, but has no intentions of laying anyone on our team off. If you have a good relationship with a manager they'll sometimes give you a hint if they know anything.

Managers are simply telling their teams that it won’t affect them to prevent a mass exodus and they’re left with skeleton crews but they themselves have no idea who specifically will be affected or how many.

Managers are being coached on what to say. I was told I have ‘no reason to be concerned’. The truth is, managers do not even know if they are on the chopping block. Best of luck everyone!

Just look if your group has good revenue stream.

If your group keeps doing development projects falling far behind schedule, no prospect to generate revenue soon, then, you know...if you are boss, would you allow these people keep draining resources in bad time?

I am in Collaboration Marketing and it has been inferred that I am safe.

My L2 mgr told me not to lose sleep over layoffs, everything is dandy. He requested that I not tell my teammates. So yeah, this is true. I am so happy.

It’s not policy and I wouldn’t expect to be told ahead of time if you’re safe. We’ve been told to stick to the script and not answer these questions. If you do well during the rewards cycle then your odds are better but if you didn’t (and you’ll know if you didn’t) then prepare yourself for the possibility

This is true. No idea how widespread it was done. AppD side confirmed some safe employees.
