In none of the companies I've worked for so far have I seen employees try so hard to justify to their superiors that Nike has a need for them and their positions. Unfortunately, this often results in a negative atmosphere. I'm wondering what you think, does Nike have too many people?

@2hbp+1jPRW8k Is absolutely correct. So much duplication and overlap of roles. So many meetings with so many people that talk and talk but don’t make any progress. No one person or group given decision-making authority. It is all justified as being “all part of the matrix”.
the excess number of people doesn't just stop there. I know a case where there are "teams" doing the same exact thing that a single team should be doing. In this way a "director" gets to tout to their bosses "hey look I have so many teams under me, give me that !!"
If you have too many (st) directory you also need the excess staff to justify their existance... So in short, the answer is yes.
Bloated in some areas and starved in others... Unhealthy
Nike could lay off 30% of the employees tomorrow with absolutely no effect on the business. In my experience Nike is way overstaffed for the amount of work and this is why the politics are so toxic and survivalist.
As a long time employee let me give you the simple and correct answer. Some functions like brand, product and others have almost always had excess people resources while corporate support functions and a few others have almost always had a scarcity of people resources. This isn’t new. Always been this way. Yes there are always exceptions. I’m generalizing here. On balance Nike probably has too many employees but that doesn’t mean there aren’t functions that could really use 2X more people than they have.
Nike has more contractors than it knows what to do with, and fewer fte than it needs.
Senior leadership is completely isolated from their bad decisions and leave the company before they have to deal with the fallout.
Company is in for one rough years if we continue course.
