Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Exit businesses

Some here predict massive PIPs (which I think is very possible to happen), as well as that the leadership might decide to exit certain businesses.

Hypothetically, what do you think these businesses could be? I still hope it won't come to that.

IBM will exit any business that they perceive as being a commodity. Why? Because IBM’s higher cost overhead puts IBM at a competitive disadvantage when they compete against other commodity vendors. Many parts of IBM’s cloud (not hybrid cloud) have become commodity. Also many service offerings/HW products under “infrastructure division” have been deemed commodity. Also anything deemed B to C will most likely go, as IBM just can’t compete in B to C engagements (weather is B to C) Keep your eye on how the CFO and CEO continue to address “enterprise” engagements because that is the strategy moving forward. Everything else is a rounding error vs “enterprise” engagements.

not sure why ibm keep in the operations management area - they buy companies and ki-l them - not sure how well instana and turbonomic are doing? They were good individual companies but not sure if they have grown once IBM took them over.
