Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Discouraging news about a bad job market is so annoying

Of course, the job market is not ideal, but anyone with sharp skills can find a job. My colleague (now ex colleague) has already found a new opportunity, although he wasn't really expecting it since there is so much talk about the bad job market. Do you know anyone with a great skillset who is unable to find a job despite the current situation on the market? I don't know such a person.

My skills are fairly niche - which helps with competition - but still last downturn (~8 years ago) still took me ~ 3 months to find a perfect fit.

Thing is I could have found a job in a month or less - for about 80% of the pay - for the same level of work. Small companies vs large companies.

Or generic "god c++ programmer" in half even that.

So look for the current openings (inside and out) and review skills, refresh, learn, target.

Only for college exams had I worked harder than the 3 laid off months refreshing skills and learning new ones. Pays off in the short and long term.

@psj+1jQEMgFV, unless this is the only job you have offered why would you want to join Intel? Expect sweat shop conditions while company tries to catch up, stressed out coworkers, and more cuts to come. Run away if you can. If it is the only offer you have it is better than being unemployed but just barely.

Is reality annoying to you? Ok. Blame the Russians. Feel a little less annoyed?

You want safe? Make yourself irreplaceable by either doing a job nobody else can do or be sure you are a DEI hire.

It’s going to evolve quickly over the next 6 to 9 months:

  • Can find a good job and good pay easily
  • Can find a good job and good pay, but not so easily
  • Can find a good job or one that pays nicely — but not both and it’ll take some work
  • Can find a mediocre job and that’ll take some work
  • Can’t find a job
